Predicting the Yield Strength Ratio of Spring Steels via Machine Learning With Experimental Validation

open access: yescScience, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Spring steels are widely used in automotive and railway systems, in which service reliability is strongly affected by the yield strength ratio (YSR). However, accurate YSR prediction remains challenging because of the nonlinear coupling between alloy composition and heat‐treatment parameters, particularly when limited data are available.

Mechanical Property Comparison of AISI 5120 Steel Produced by LENS and DMD Systems

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study compares AISI 5120 steel produced by LENS and DMD processes, revealing trade‐offs in mechanical performance. LENS offers higher surface hardness and impact toughness, while DMD provides superior tensile strength and ductility. Findings guide process selection for application‐specific needs in automotive, aerospace, and heavy machinery ...

Experimental Investigations on the Energy Absorption of Aluminum TPMS Structures Under Dynamic Loading

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) constitute a prominent class of cellular structures and have gained considerable attention in current research. These structures are genus‐infinite surfaces with zero mean curvature, which prevents self‐intersection. They also exhibit periodicity in all three spatial directions and exhibit enhanced multi‐

Atom Probe Tomography‐Based Analysis of Residual Trace Elements in Advanced Metallic Materials

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Residual trace elements inherited from raw materials strongly influence the mechanical and environmental performance of advanced metallic alloys and recycling materials due to preferable boundary/interface segregation and resultant embrittlement effects, yet their parts per million level concentrations pose significant challenges to ...

Designing Additive‐Manufactured High‐Performance CoCrNi Matrix Composites Based on Grain Boundary Segregation

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Through grain boundary segregation engineering, a crack‐free high‐strength CoCrNi medium‐entropy alloy (MEA) can be successfully fabricated via laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB). The influence of micron‐sized TiC particles on microstructural evolution, grain boundary segregation behavior, and mechanical properties was systematically ...

Two‐Stage Isothermal Transformation of Austenite into Nanobainite in a Chemically Inhomogeneous Medium‐Alloy Steel Containing 0.5 wt% C

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 6, Page 3308-3327, June 2026.
The effect of chemical inhomogeneity on the microstructure and properties of nanobainitic steel is investigated. A two‐stage isothermal heat treatment that produced a more uniform microstructure is designed. The first‐stage temperature is higher than the MS of depleted bands; conversely, the second‐stage temperature is lower than the first‐stage ...

Microstructure Evolution in Directionally Solidified Fe–C–Mn–(Si) Peritectic Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 6, Page 3133-3142, June 2026.
This study investigates how growth velocity and silicon additions affect dendritic morphology, primary arm spacing, and mushy‐zone evolution in directionally solidified quaternary peritectic steels. Silicon substantially broadens the freezing range and lengthens the mushy zone, increasing susceptibility to interdendritic cracking.
