The "magic numbers" of metallothionein.
Metallothioneins (MT) are a family of small cysteine rich proteins, which since their discovery in 1957, have been implicated in a range of roles including toxic metal detoxification, protection against oxidative stress, and as a metallochaperone ...

Dynamic structure of metallothionein
Molecular sieve chromatography of rabbit liver metallothionein at different electrolyte concentrations revealed that this protein undergoes an increase in Stokes radius from 1.50 to 1.78 nm when the ionic strength is lowered from 0.5 to 0.015 indicating a change in molecular shape and/or hydration.

A moderate increase in dietary zinc reduces DNA strand breaks in leukocytes and alters plasma proteins without changing plasma zinc concentrations. [PDF]
BackgroundFood fortification has been recommended to improve a population's micronutrient status. Biofortification techniques modestly elevate the zinc content of cereals, but few studies have reported a positive impact on functional indicators of zinc ...

On the nature of the Cu-rich aggregates in brain astrocytes
Fulfilling a bevy of biological roles, copper is an essential metal for healthy brain function. Cu dyshomeostasis has been demonstrated to be involved in some neurological conditions including Menkes and Alzheimer's diseases.

The Mercury-Tolerant Microbiota of the Zooplankton Daphnia Aids in Host Survival and Maintains Fecundity under Mercury Stress. [PDF]
Many aquatic organisms can thrive in polluted environments by having the genetic capability to withstand suboptimal conditions. However, the contributions of microbiomes under these stressful environments are poorly understood.
