Thermomechanical Pathways for Accurate Microstructural Control of Ti–7Ag Alloy: Towards a New Generation of Antibacterial Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesMetals
This study delved into exploring microstructural states in a Ti–7Ag alloy to achieve targeted functional and structural properties. Specifically, the focus was on attaining a homogeneously precipitated state and a solid solution, known for their ...

Hot tensile tests of Inconel 718 [PDF]

open access: yes
The physical metallurgy of near-solidus integranular cracking in Inconel 718 welds was investigated. The data, although inconclusive, suggest at least two mechanisms which might explain intergranular cracking (microfissuring) in the heat-affected zone of

Wafer‐Scale Synthesis of Mithrene and its Application in UV Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A controlled tarnishing step on the silver surface precedes the solid‐vapor‐phase chemical transformation into silver phenylselenolate thin films. The approach yields crystals exceeding 1 µm with improved in‐plane orientation. Integration on graphene phototransistors demonstrates high photoresponsivity, positioning mithrene as a promising material for ...

Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.

Innovation technique et rationalisation structurelle dans les centres miniers des cités toscanes et de la couronne d’Aragon

open access: yesMélanges de la Casa de Velázquez, 2018
Among the most characteristic innovations in the genesis of the modern mining enterprise were small-scale assay techniques. There are archaeological remains attesting to the use of such operations in German mining areas from the late 12th century, but ...

Russian manufacturing and the threat of ‘Dutch disease’: a comparison of competitiveness developments in Russian and Ukrainian industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper examines the development of Russian industry in comparison with that of Ukrainian industry during 1995–2004 in an effort to ascertain to what extent, if any, Russian manufacturing showed signs of succumbing to ‘Dutch disease’.

Solar Heating Enhanced Selective Recovery of Metal Ions Through Flowing Electrodes Enabled by Hybrid Carbon Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new electrochemical system based on a microporous hybrid of carbon nanoplatelets and nanotubes to selectively capture Ni2+ from wastewater is constructed. The system temperature rises rapidly when irradiated with sunlight, which enhances the Ni2+ removal rate by 250% and the selectivity by 53%, and the energy consumption is also reduced by 51 ...

Biomimetic Ion‐Orchestrated Hierarchical Armored Hydrogel Coating for Robust and Multifunctional Surface Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by the skin‐toughening mechanism of marine sponges, an ion‐orchestrated structural engineering strategy is proposed to regulate the surface microstructure of hydrogel coatings, enabling the in situ formation of a robust armor layer that enhances mechanical integrity and provides multifunctional protection by suppressing fouling attachment and ...
