Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Optical magnetic response without metamaterials

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2021
One of the main achievements of metamaterials research has been the development of structured matter exhibiting optical magnetism: first, in an array of microwave split-ring resonators and, soon after, in plasmonic and dielectric metamaterials at THz to ...

Exploiting Two‐Photon Lithography, Deposition, and Processing to Realize Complex 3D Magnetic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon lithography (TPL) enables 3D magnetic nanostructures with unmatched freedom in geometry and material choice. Advances in voxel control, deposition, and functionalization open pathways to artificial spin ices, racetracks, microrobots, and a number of additional technological applications.

Magnonic Metamaterials

open access: yes, 2012
A large proportion of the recent growth of the volume of electromagnetics research has been associated with the emergence of so called electromagnetic metamaterials1 and the discovered ability to design their unusual properties by tweaking the geometry and structure of the constituent “meta-atoms”.

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

A Smart Magnetically Actuated Flip‐Disc Programmable Metasurface with Ultralow Power Consumption for Real‐Time Channel Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study proposes a 1‐bit programmable metasurface based on flip‐disc display, named flip‐disc metasurface (FD‐MTS). This new design enables ultralow energy consumption while maintaining coding patterns. It also exhibits high scalability and multifunctional flexibility.

Inverse-designed spinodoid metamaterials

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials, 2020
After a decade of periodic truss-, plate-, and shell-based architectures having dominated the design of metamaterials, we introduce the non-periodic class of spinodoid topologies. Inspired by natural self-assembly processes, spinodoid metamaterials are a

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.
