Basement membrane (BM) homeostasis relies on a balance between integrity, controlled remodelling and pathological degradation. Increased protease expression beneath the BM, along with reduced levels of endogenous protease inhibitors, drives the transition from a continuous, protective barrier to a discontinuous interface.

ABSTRACT Dispersal during early life stages is a critical process shaping marine fish connectivity and population dynamics, yet direct field observations at the individual level remain elusive. This has limited our understanding of the factors controlling dispersal, including the impact of active swimming by larvae and juveniles. Here, we present a new

ABSTRACT This paper examines the positioning of elite Black African women in extractive labor spaces, arguing that their experiences are shaped by interrelated feminist concepts of care, time, experience, equality, and difference. Using an African feminist theoretical framework, the study recenters African epistemologies of work and embodiment to ...

Diet breadth shapes gut microbiota in the invasive hornet Vespa velutina
Dietary and microbial profiles of V. velutina larvae are dominated by Apidae and Firmicutes, respectively. DNA metabarcoding of larval meconium and gut samples reveals a significant positive correlation between prey richness and bacterial diversity in the invasive hornet V. velutina. Multiple significant correlations exist between dietary and microbial

Ontogeny of body form and metamorphosis: insights from the crested newts
Exploring the pattern of size and shape changes during the ontogeny of closely related species is of fundamental importance because it provides an insight into the processes that lead to the evolutionary diversification of body forms and into ...

Bacteriomes, cryptic forms and evolution of a common wireworm pest species, Hypnoidus bicolor
Wireworms are important agricultural pests, including Hypnoidus bicolor in the Canadian Prairies. Parthenogenetic and sexual populations of H. bicolor appear associated with different molecular clades. Bacterial community composition and structure were influenced by developmental stage, sampling location and host genetics.
