Are metaphors in law universal? A contrastive corpus-based approach to the analysis of metaphorical collocations

This paper focuses on the analysis of metaphorical collocations of the term law in an English web corpus and its equivalents in the German and Croatian web corpora. The paper investigates collocations in two grammatical relations extracted by means of the Word Sketch function in Sketch Engine (Kilgariff et al. 2014).

In order to identify certain properties of collocations beyond final categorization, this chapter focuses on verbal collocations based on metaphors in the semantic representation of basic emotions (fear, sadness, anger, happiness) in Croatian and French.
