Histopathogenesis of intestinal metaplasia: minute lesions of intestinal metaplasia in ulcerated stomachs. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pathology, 1987
Minute lesions of intestinal metaplasia composed of a few metaplastic tubules were observed in the gastric mucosa during routine histological examination of gastrectomy specimens. The histological findings indicated that these lesions might be an initial stage of more advanced intestinal metaplasia.

Efficacy of high-vision transnasal endoscopy using texture and colour enhancement imaging and narrow-band imaging to evaluate gastritis: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 2022

Transcribed ultraconserved noncoding RNAs (T-UCR) are involved in Barrett's esophagus carcinogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Barretts esophagus (BE) involves a metaplastic replacement of native esophageal squamous epithelium (Sq) by columnar-intestinalized mucosa, and it is the main risk factor for Barrett-related adenocarcinoma (BAc).

Intestinal metaplasia in gallbladders: prevalence study [PDF]

open access: yesSao Paulo Medical Journal, 2008
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Gallbladder cancer is usually diagnosed at a late stage and generally results in death. Discovery of predisposing factors for this neoplasia could prevent this outcome. In this study, we assess the presence of one of these factors: intestinal metaplasia in gallbladders with stones and inflammatory processes.

Cell proliferation and apoptosis in gastric cancer and intestinal metaplasia Proliferação celular e apoptose em câncer gástrico e metaplasia intestinal

open access: yesArquivos de Gastroenterologia, 2005
BACKGROUND: Higher proliferation is commonly observed in cancer cells. Apoptosis can be a useful measure of a tumor cell kinetic. Alteration of the balance between proliferation and apoptosis is associated with cancer.

High expression of Cathepsin E in tissues but not blood of patients with Barrett’s esophagus and adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Cathepsin E (CTSE), an aspartic proteinase, is differentially expressed in the metaplasia–dysplasia–neoplasia sequence of gastric and colon cancer.

bak deletion stimulates gastric epithelial proliferation and enhances Helicobacter felis-induced gastric atrophy and dysplasia in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Helicobacter infection causes a chronic superficial gastritis that in some cases progresses via atrophic gastritis to adenocarcinoma. Proapoptotic bak has been shown to regulate radiation-induced apoptosis in the stomach and colon and also susceptibility
