Independent origins of diploidy in Metarhizium.
Mycologia, 2018In fungi, stable diploid genome arrangements are rare. Here we present evidence from nuclear intergenic DNA sequencing, microsatellite genotyping, and configuration of the mating-type locus to demonstrate two independent origins of persistent diploid genome organization in the Metarhizium majus species complex.

Studies on adaptations of Metarhizium anisopliae to life in the soil
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2008Metarhizium anisopliae is an important fungal model for elucidating the basis of entomopathogenicity. A field trial conducted in 2000 with a strain expressing the gfp gene as a marker unexpectedly identified the rhizosphere (the root-soil interface) as the site where insects and pathogen most likely interact.
