White grubs (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) associated with Nepalese agriculture and their control with the indigenous entomopathogenic fungus "Metarhizium anisopliae" (Metsch.) Sorokin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
White grubs became increasingly difficult pests in Nepal for the last few years. Their infestation has been reported throughout the country and magnitude of the problem has been widespread over the past years.

Metarhizium mendonceae sp. nov.: An important biological control agent for insect pests.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The Metarhizium anisopliae complex consists of 34 formally described phylogenetic species. Metarhizium anisopliae sensu lato has been used for decades in Brazil as a biological control agent for controlling spittlebugs in sugarcane plantations.

Sweet pepper seed responses to inoculation with microorganisms and coating with micronutrients, aminoacids and plant growth regulators Tratamento de sementes de pimentão com microrganismos, micronutrientes, aminoácidos e reguladores de crescimento

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2009
Small sized seeds, such as the horticultural species, have limited quantities of reserves that can be balanced by coating then with essential nutrients for their initial development.

Virulence effect of Metarhizium anisopliae (Met.) and Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) fungi against the peach fruit fly, Bactrocera zonata (Saunders) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2022
Background The peach fruit fly, Bactrocera zonata (Saunders) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a key pest of fruits in Egypt. Insect-pathogenic fungi are one of the biocontrol agents that increasingly substitute the traditional pesticides to overcome pesticide ...

Diversity of the Microbiomes in the Larval and Adult Stages of the European Cherry Fruit Fly (Rhagoletis cerasi) and Identification of Potential Biocontrol Candidate Taxa

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
First comprehensive characterization of the R. cerasi microbiome is reported. Stage‐specific variations in microbial composition are documented. Multiple bacterial entomopathogen taxa are identified as potential biocontrol candidates for R. cerasi.

Identification of Metamasius hemipterus (Coleoptera: Dryophthoridae) and its biological control through the use of species of the genus Beauveria and Metarhizium. Amazonas, Peru

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy
Biological control of insect pests represents a key strategy toward sustainable agriculture. This study, focused on the morphological and molecular identification of the sugarcane weevil, Metamasius hemipterus, (Coleoptera: Dryophthoridae), and on the ...

Effects of the temperature and storage on formulations with Mycelia of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill and Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschn.) Sorok

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 1999
This research deals with preparation of experimental formulations with mycelia of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae. The formulations were prepared with sodium alginate and pre-gelatinized corn-starch. They were kept at 25, 30 and 35±1ºC. Pre-

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Cellular immune response of Amblyomma sculptum and Amblyomma americanum to entomopathogenic fungi: Implications for biological tick control

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Amblyomma sculptum showed a plasmatocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana increased plasmatocytes and reduced granulocytes, whereas Metarhizium robertsii did not cause significant changes. Amblyomma americanum showed a granulocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana reduced total haemocytes and granulocytes. B.

Immune Response and Gut Microbiota Shift in the Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) Infected With Entomopathogenic Fungus, Beauveria bassiana, Reveal Host‐Pathogen Interactions

open access: yesArchives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, Volume 122, Issue 2, June 2026.
This study reveals a “Microbiota‐Immune Axis” in Beauveria bassiana‐infected larvae, where gut dysbiosis positively correlates with systemic immunity in the fat body. Meanwhile, the hindgut exhibits immune tolerance, highlighting a tissue‐specific trade‐off between combating the pathogen and preserving the gut microbiome.
