Tick fauna of north-western India (Acarina : Metastigmata)

International Journal of Acarology, 1975
Abstract During present studies 41 species belonging to Ixodidae and Argasidae comprising 10 genera were collected from different localities and various hosts in north-western India. These were: IXODIDAE — Amblyomma helvolum Koch, A. integrum Karsch, A. nitidum Hirst and Hirst, A. sublaeve Neumann, A.

New distributional records of ticks from Southeast Asia and the Pacific (Metastigmata : Argasidae, Ixodidae)

Oriental Insects, 1970
The following 11 species of ticks are recorded for the first time from various countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Argas (Persicargas) robertsi (Indonesia), Amblyomma nitidum (West Irian),...

The spiracle of Ixodes ricinus (L.) (Ixodidae: Metastigmata: Acarina): a passive diffusion barrier for water vapour

Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1988
The structure of the spiracle in the adult female of Ixodes ricinus (L.) is assessed. Gaseous exchange between the tracheal system and the external atmosphere is shown to occur only via the aeropyles in the surface of the sieve plate and is regulated by the atrial valve.

Some observations on the chaetotaxy of the legs of larval Ixodidae (Acari: Metastigmata)

Journal of Natural History, 1967
Summary The segmental chaetotaxy of the legs of some larval ixodid ticks has been studied, employing the system of nomenclature currently used for the mesostigmatic mites. Preliminary results indicate that in common with the larval Mesostigmata, the family Ixodidae has a relatively constant larval leg chaetotaxy which allows the subfamilies and tribes ...

First Report of Molecular-Genetic Description and Barcoding of Hard Ticks (Metastigmata: Ixodidae) Distributed in Georgia

Animal Husbandry Archives
Hard ticks (Ixodidae) are important vectors of infectious diseases worldwide. Because of its geographical location, Georgia is a bridge between different biogeographical and climate zones and is rich in biodiversity. Different species of hard ticks are distributed in Georgia and have not yet been barcoded.

Spiracular transpiration in ticks: a passive diffusion barrier in three species of Ixodidae (Metastigmata: Acarina)

Journal of Zoology, 1990
In ixodid ticks the morphology of the spiracle, and in particular that of the labyrinth, differs between species. A reduction in transpiration of water vapour by the ‘mutual interference’ effect previously described in Ixodes ricinus (L.) is not significant in many species.

Functional morphology of the spiracles in two species of Argasidae (Metastigmata: Acarina), with particular reference to responses to desiccation

Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1991
Spiracle morphology of Argas persicus (Oken) and Omithodorus acinus Whittick is described and the differences between the two species are related to biological factors. Argasid and ixodid spiracle structures and functions are compared.
