Mineralogy and Surface Composition of Asteroids

open access: yes, 2015
Methods to constrain the surface mineralogy of asteroids have seen considerable development during the last decade with advancement in laboratory spectral calibrations and validation of our interpretive methodologies by spacecraft rendezvous missions ...

Terrestrial exposure of a fresh Martian meteorite causes rapid changes in hydrogen isotopes and water concentrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Determining the hydrogen isotopic compositions and H2O contents of meteorites and their components is important for addressing key cosmochemical questions about the abundance and source(s) of water in planetary bodies.

Terrestrial ages of meteorites from the Atacama Desert (Chile) and insights into the past meteorite flux to Earth

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The Atacama Desert in Chile is characterized by its high meteorite density and old meteorite terrestrial ages. In this work, we present new terrestrial ages derived from measurements of the concentration of cosmogenic 36Cl in the metal fraction of 51 ordinary chondrites collected over a 6.8 km2 area located in the Catalina Dense Collection ...

Non‐innocent solvents in meteorite extractions: Evidence for artifact formation

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Solvent extraction is a cornerstone of meteoritic organic and inorganic chemistry, yet the assumption that common solvents act as chemically inert media is becoming increasingly untenable. This study reports that low‐molecular‐weight alcohols, particularly methanol and ethanol, are “non‐innocent” solvents when used to extract soluble sulfur ...

Isotopic composition of gadolinium in meteorites.

open access: yesGEOCHEMICAL JOURNAL, 1979
An alternative explanation is presented for the neutron effects observed by EUGSTER et al. (1970) in Gd extracted from the Norton County achondrite. It is suggested that an ‘early’ irradiation of the solar system material occurred at a temperature much higher than 200°K assumed by the above investigators.

Characterisation of presumed meteorite from Trbovlje

open access: yesGeologija, 2011
The main objective of this study was to identify and characterise a specimen of presumed meteorite, supposedly found in 1947 while crushing gangue material from an open-pit coal mining site in Trbovlje.

Abundances of the elements in the solar system

open access: yes, 2009
A review of the abundances and condensation temperatures of the elements and their nuclides in the solar nebula and in chondritic meteorites. Abundances of the elements in some neighboring stars are also discussed.Comment: 42 pages, 11 tables, 8 figures,

Bunburra Rockhole: Exploring the geology of a new differentiated asteroid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bunburra Rockhole is the first recovered meteorite of the Desert Fireball Network. We expanded a bulk chemical study of the Bunburra Rockhole meteorite to include major, minor and trace element analyses, as well as oxygen and chromium isotopes, in ...
