The oxidation of methane by nitrous oxide
Combustion and Flame, 1973The reaction of methane and nitrous oxide in a static system at 873°K has been examined at a range of nitrous oxide pressures from 15 to 50 Torr and methane pressures from 7.5 to 120 Torr. The main products initially observed are nitrogen, ethane, carbon monoxide, and water, and a mechanism accounting for these has been advanced. At very low conversion

The Role of Crystalline Iron Oxides in Methane Mitigation through Anaerobic Oxidation of Methane
ACS ES&T Water, 2021Biological Fe(III)-dependent anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) is predicted to be a key methane sink in natural and anthropogenic environments. Crystalline Fe(III) is an important environmentally relevant form of Fe(III) in those environments, including aquifers, estuaries, marine sediments, and soils. However, its role in methane mitigation remains

THE REGULATION OF METHANE OXIDATION IN SOIL
Annual Review of Microbiology, 1995The atmospheric concentration of methane, a greenhouse gas, has more than doubled during the past 200 years. Consequently, identifying the factors influencing the flux of methane into the atmosphere is becoming increasingly important. Methanotrophs, microaerophilic organisms widespread in aerobic soils and sediments, oxidize methane to derive energy ...

The slow oxidation of methane—the role of the surface on the course of the oxidation of methane
Combustion and Flame, 1957Abstract Following the authors' investigation on the slow oxidation of methane and using methods previously described, the effects of surfaces of various kinds on the course of the reactions have been studied at temperatures from 450° to 500° C and pressures from 100 to 400 mm Hg.

Influence of chlorine on methane oxidation
Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2009Experiments on CH4/Cl2/O2/N2 oxidation were conducted in an atmospheric pressure flow reactor to understand the influence of chlorine on hydrocarbon oxidation in hazardous waste incineration. The reaction temperature varied from 973 to 1273 K and the chlorine to hydrogen mole ratio (Cl/H) of the inlet mixture varied from 0 to 0.44. The species produced

[Contribution of anaerobic oxidation of methane to whole methane oxidation].
Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2006The contribution of anaerobic methane oxidation to the whole methane oxidation is investigated by monitoring the activities of anaerobic and aerobic oxidation of methane in paddy soils composed mechanically of 0.02 mm soil granules, contained different water contents, and long-term fertilized organic manure or inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus and ...

The oxidation of carbon monoxide by methane-oxidizing bacteria
Archives of Microbiology, 1974Carbon monoxide induces both respiration and carbon dioxide production in washed cell suspensions of the two methane-oxidizing bacteriaMethylomonas albus (BG8) andMethylosinus trichosporium (OB3B). The ability of these organisms to oxidise carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide was confirmed by the use of tracer techniques.

Effluents of anaerobic wastewater treatment plants are saturated with methane, an effective greenhouse gas. We propose a novel approach to treat such effluents using a coculture of methane oxidizing communities and microalgae, further indicated as methalgae, which would allow microbial methane oxidation with minimal CO(2) emissions.

Electrochemical Oxidation of Methane to Methylamine
Journal of the American Chemical SocietyThe electrochemical methane (CH4) oxidation reaction under ambient conditions is a promising approach for natural gas utilization. However, the highly stable nature of CH4 restrains efficient cleavage of the C-H bond without overoxidation. To this end, we proposed a coupled oxidative strategy for converting CH4 to value-added products via NH2 ...
