Noble metal catalysts for methane removal

Chemosphere, 2003
Using a bench-scale rig, the activities of Pt, Pd and Pt+Pd catalysts supported on gamma-Al(2)O(3) and on TiO(2) (anatase) for the complete oxidation of methane (300 ppmv) in air have been measured as a function of temperature; values of T(10), T(50) and T(90) together with the Arrhenius parameters (activation energy and pre-exponential factor) are ...

Combined anaerobic ammonium and methane oxidation for nitrogen and methane removal

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2011
Anammox (anaerobic ammonium oxidation) is an environment-friendly and cost-efficient nitrogen-removal process currently applied to high-ammonium-loaded wastewaters such as anaerobic digester effluents. In these wastewaters, dissolved methane is also present and should be removed to prevent greenhouse gas emissions into the environment.

Methane removal and atmospheric restoration

Nature Sustainability, 2019
Zeolites and other technologies should be evaluated and pursued for reducing methane concentrations in the atmosphere from 1,860 ppb to preindustrial levels of ~750 ppb. Such a goal of atmospheric restoration provides a positive framework for change at a time when climate action is desperately needed.

The indispensable role of assimilation in methane driven nitrate removal

Science of The Total Environment, 2020
Methane is a greenhouse gas that can be released from sludge anaerobic fermentation in wastewater treatment plants. Methane is also an alternative additional carbon source for deep nitrate removal of secondary effluent. A sequencing experiment was conducted to study the efficacy of nitrate removal with methane as the sole carbon source.

Plasma-catalytic hybrid reactor: Application to methane removal

Catalysis Today, 2015
Abstract Methane oxidation was investigated in a pulsed dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure coupled with Pd/Al2O3 catalysts. Comparison between plasma, catalytic, and plasma-catalysis (both in-plasma and post-plasma catalysis) systems were performed in the temperature range of 25–500 °C and specific input energy up to 148 J/L.

Technical approaches to removing methane from the atmosphere (methane removal)

Against the background of the discussion on Carbon Dioxide Removal, the question arises as to whether there are also technologies to remove methane (CH4) from the atmosphere (Methane Removal), which is 30 times more harmful to the climate. Methane is converted into CO2 in the atmosphere by natural oxidation processes with an average residence time of 9

Simultaneous methane mitigation and nitrogen removal by denitrifying anaerobic methane oxidation in lake sediments

Science of The Total Environment
Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas, with lake ecosystems significantly contributing to its global emissions. Denitrifying anaerobic methane oxidation (DAMO) process, mediated by NC10 bacteria and ANME-2d archaea, links global carbon and nitrogen cycles. However, their potential roles in mitigating methane emissions and removing nitrogen from lake

Feasibility of atmospheric methane removal using methanotrophic biotrickling filters

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2009
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential ~23 times that of carbon dioxide. Here, we describe the modeling of a biotrickling filtration system composed of methane-consuming bacteria, i.e., methanotrophs, to assess the utility of these systems in removing methane from the atmosphere.

A Feasible Way to Remove the Heat during Adsorptive Methane Storage

Environmental Science & Technology, 2014
Methane originating from biogas or natural gas is an attractive and environmentally friendly alternative to gasoline. Adsorption is seen as promising storage technology, but the heat released limits fast filling of these systems. Here a lab scale adsorptive methane storage tank, capable to study the temperature increase during fast filling, was ...
