DAUMEN-Energy “Design for Augmented Methanisation” a contribution to sustainable biomethanation

open access: yesWater Practice and Technology, 2011
The competition for cultivable acreage between energy and food crops increases in Germany. One part of the problem are the currently installed biogas plants for energy crops, which use mainly the fruit parts of the plants. To mitigate this problem, cellulose may well be used as a main substrate.

Silage of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste to improve methane production

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2021
The silage of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) is a common practice in biogas plants. During silage, fermentation processes take place, affecting the later methanisation stage.

Metagenomic analysis of a desulphurisation system used to treat biogas from vinasse methanisation

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2016
We investigated the response of microbial community to changes in H2S loading rate in a microaerated desulphurisation system treating biogas from vinasse methanisation. H2S removal efficiency was high, and both COD and DO seemed to be important parameters to biomass activity.

Anaerobic Treatment of Concentrated Black Water in UASB Reactor at a Short HRT [PDF]

open access: yes
This research describes the feasibility of applying a UASB reactor for the treatment of concentrated black (toilet) water at 25 °C. On average 78% of the influent load of COD at an HRT of 8.7 days was removed. Produced methane can be converted to 56 MJ/p/

Experimental Gasification of Biomass in an Updraft Gasifier with External Recirculation of Pyrolysis Gases

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
The updraft gasifier is a simple type of reactor for the gasification of biomass that is easy to operate and has high conversion efficiency, although it produces high levels of tar. This study attempts to observe the performance of a modified updraft gasifier.

Dynamics of a Bioreactor with a Bacteria Piecewise‐Linear Growth Model in a Methane‐Producing Process

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
This paper shows a study, both analytical and numerical, of a continuous‐time dynamical system associated with a simple model of a wastewater biorreactor. Nonsmooth phenomena and border‐collision local bifurcations appear when the main parameters (dilution and biomass concentration at the inflow) are varied.

Modelling the Impact of Drained and Undrained Conditions on GHG Emissions in Croplands: A Case Study in Lincolnshire, UK

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, Volume 74, Issue 4, Page 1751-1765, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Agricultural drainage plays a crucial role in land management and crop productivity but significantly impacts greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study examines the effects of drained and undrained soil conditions on GHG emissions in croplands via a case study in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.

Analysis of the Behaviour of Biofuel-Fired Gas Turbine Power Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The utilisation of biofuels in gas turbines is a promising alternative to fossil fuels for power generation. It would lead to significant reduction of CO2 emissions using an existing combustion technology, although significant changes seem to be needed
