Nanofludic Analysis on Methanol Crossover of Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
ASME 2008 First International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat Transfer, Parts A and B, 2008Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are considered as a competitive power source candidate for portable electronic devices. Nafion® has been widely used for the electrolyte of DMFCs because of its good proton conductivity and high chemical and mechanical stability.

This experimental work aims to investigate the possibility to reduce methanol crossover in DMFC mod- ifying diffusion layer characteristics. Improvements in crossover measurement are firstly proposed, permitting to conclude that in the investigated conditions carbon dioxide flow through the membrane can be neglected.

Measurement of methanol crossover in direct methanol fuel cell
JSAE Review, 2001In a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) with a Nafion membrane, a methanol solution fed to the anode permeates to the cathode. This phenomenon causes the depolarization loss at the cathode and the DMFC performance grows worse. In this research, by continuously measuring the concentration of CH3OH, CO and CO2 in the exhaust gas of the cathode, the amount ...

Open circuit voltage and methanol crossover in DMFCs
Journal of Power Sources, 2002It is difficult to definitely measure the open circuit voltage (OCV) of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). For example, after a cell is changed from a loaded state to a no load, open circuit state, the voltage increases quickly and reaches a peak value in seconds. Some might use this peak voltage as the OCV.

Methanol crossover studies on heat-treated Nafion® membranes
Journal of Membrane Science, 2008A major improvement in the performance of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) can be expected with a decrease of methanol crossover from the anode to the cathode of the cell. The focus of this paper is on investigation of methanol permeability when the membrane is processed at a high temperature.

Influence of Methanol Crossover on Cathode Catalyst in Direct Methanol Fuel Cell
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2017The crossover effect is in the case of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) much more significant in comparison with PEMFC. Proof that the methanol crossover is a big issue in this field is a fact that there exist lots of publications describing the innovative procedures how to diminish this phenomenon [1-4].

We developed a cell voltage model as a function of the current density response of the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The impact on cell performance by methanol crossover, which lowers the cell performance, is discussed. We employ a srmethanol activity term to take into account the methanol crossover effect.

Comparison of Methanol Crossover among Four Types of Nafion Membranes
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2004The crossover behavior of methanol through Nafion 112, 117, 1035, and 1135 membranes using cyclic voltammetry (CV) was studied at 25°C and the results compared. The multiple CV technique was used to study the electrochemical characteristics of the crossed methanol during this crossover.

Methanol and water crossover in a passive liquid-feed direct methanol fuel cell
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2010Abstract Methanol crossover, water crossover, and fuel efficiency for a passive liquid-feed direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) were all experimentally determined based on the mass balance of the cell discharged under different current loads. The effects of different operating conditions such as current density and methanol concentration, as well as the
