SICLE: A high-throughput tool for extracting evolutionary relationships from phylogenetic trees
We present the phylogeny analysis software SICLE (Sister Clade Extractor), an easy-to-use, high- throughput tool to describe the nearest neighbors to a node of interest in a phylogenetic tree as well as the support value for the relationship.

Physiological Evidence for Isopotential Tunneling in the Electron Transport Chain of Methane-Producing Archaea [PDF]
Many, but not all, organisms use quinones to conserve energy in their electron transport chains. Fermentative bacteria and methane-producing archaea (methanogens) do not produce quinones but have devised other ways to generate ATP. Methanophenazine (MPh)

Aged-engineered nanoparticles effect on sludge anaerobic digestion performance and associated microbial communities [PDF]
To investigate the potential effect of aged engineered nanoparticles (a-ENPs) on sludge digestion performance, 150 L pilot anaerobic digesters (AD) were fed with a blend of primary and waste activated sludge spiked either with a mixture of silver oxide ...

ABSTRACT Rationale The stable carbon isotopic composition (δ13C) of individual lipids is of great value in studying carbon cycling. Among those, microbial lipids in sediments impacted by high methane turnover stand out due to their uniquely depleted isotopic fingerprint.

Methanogenic cleavage of acetate by lysates of Methanosarcina barkeri [PDF]
Cell lysates of acetate-grown Methanosarcina barkeri 227 were found to cleave acetate to CH4 and CO2. The aceticlastic reaction was identified by using radioactive methyl-labeled acetate. Cell lysates decarboxylated acetate in a nitrogen atmosphere, conserving the methyl group in methane.
