ABSTRACT Prenatal exome sequencing (ES) can establish rare genetic diagnoses in a fetus but may also lead to occult genetic diagnosis in a biological parent. We present a case of dual fetal and maternal diagnosis by prenatal ES, in a fetus with unexplained anemia and in a pregnant patient with sickle cell disease (SCD) and recurrent unexplained hypoxia.

Oxygen-derived free radical damage is associated with the molecular toxicity of hemoglobin. Especially in thalassemia syndromes, this toxicity has a relationship with "free" alpha globin concentrations.

Methaemoglobinaemia: From pathophysiology to contemporary clinical management
Summary Methaemoglobin (MetHb) is an oxidised form of haemoglobin (Hb) unable to bind oxygen. Raised levels of MetHb reduce the blood's oxygen‐carrying capacity, causing potentially severe hypoxaemia and possible death. The condition arises from three main pathologies: mutations in globin genes causing Haemoglobin‐M, inherited deficiency of the enzyme ...

Abstract There is a growing interest in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) aquaculture to extend the time fish are reared in freshwater (FW) recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), producing larger FW salmon that can then be induced to undergo smoltification before transfer into marine net pens for grow‐out and harvest.

Septic Shock and Prognosis in Dogs and Cats With Sepsis—Consensus Definition and Clinical Criteria
ABSTRACT Death from sepsis results from progressive organ dysfunction. Early recognition of increased illness severity or deterioration in clinical status enables timely interventions that can improve outcomes. We aimed to define septic shock by consensus and to use the existing literature to identify associated clinical and clinicopathologic ...
