Enantiomer-specific isotope analysis of D- and L-alanine: Nitrogen isotopic hetero- and homogeneity in microbial and chemical processes [PDF]

open access: yesEarth, Life, and Isotopes (Kyoto University Press), pp. 387-402 (2010), 2013
Nitrogen isotopic hetero- and homogeneity of D-{\alpha}-alanine and L-{\alpha}-alanine were investigated in microbial processes in the domain Bacteria and in chemical processes in symmetric organic synthesis. D-alanine is an enantiomer that is physiologically essential for microbial growth and metabolic maintenance.

Antibacterial hydrogel: The sniper of chronic wounds

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The treatment of chronic wounds has always been an important challenge in the medical field. We focus on hydrogels not only because they provide a moist healing environment but also because compared with traditional dressings, they can effectively prevent and treat infections, reduce wound pain and scar formation.

A Combined Experimental and Mathematical Study of The Evolution of Microbial Community Composed of Interacting Staphylococcus Strains [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The emergence of the phenomenon known as ABR (anti-bacterial resistance), is the result of the gradual decrease in the efficacy of antibiotics and the increase in the cost of producing new antibiotics. Hence, alternative solutions to prevent the spread of the pathogenic species are required.

A pH‐responsive charge‐reversal liposome with enhanced biofilm penetration for multimodal synergistic therapy of bacterial infections

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This study develops a pH‐responsive, charge‐reversal liposome for treating bacterial biofilm infections. With enhanced penetration capability, the liposome effectively delivers antibacterial agents into biofilms. By integrating photodynamic and photothermal therapies with antibiotics, it significantly eradicates biofilms and accelerates bacteria ...

Promising Prodiginins Biological Activities

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Prodiginins are a large family of at least 34 pyrrolic compounds, including the well‐studied red pigment prodigiosin. Prodiginins are produced by several microorganisms displaying broad biological activities, including antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive activities.

Staphylococcus aureus AgrA Modulators From South African Antimicrobial Plants

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The study workflow utilized validated in silico [molecular docking, fingerprinting, pharmacokinetics prediction, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, ligand‐protein contact maps] tools to bioprospect a wide variety of metabolites surveyed from South African plants with antimicrobial activities, and target them against the key S.
