Oxidation of Benzoyl Methionine to Benzoyl Methionine Sulfoxide with 3-Hydroperoxyindolenines

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1972
Benzoyl methionine (4), its methyl ester (9), and methionine have been oxidized with 3-hydroperoxyindolenines (3a and 7) to the corresponding sulfoxides (5, 10, and methionine sulfoxide).

Ammonification Process Is Limited by Transformation of Medium Molecular Weight Nitrogenous Organics but Not Hydrolysis of Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐level analytical framework, integrating protein‐level persistence analysis, nontargeted HRMS formula tracking, peptide‐level proteomics, and targeted monomer quantification under varying redox conditions, together with FMO calculations reveal that ammonification is limited by medium molecular weight nitrogenous multimers.

Protein methionine sulfoxide dynamics in Arabidopsis thaliana under oxidative stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide can modify proteins via direct oxidation of their sulfur-containing amino acids, cysteine and methionine.

Predicting Enzyme Turnover Numbers and Enabling Rational Enzyme Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MCKcat, a deep learning framework combining multi‐scale convolution and cross‐attention, accurately predicts enzyme turnover number (kcat) by fusing sequence and reaction representations. It couples with rational design in a two‐step strategy for Bacillus aryabhattai laccase engineering, achieving a 75% positive rate with synergistically enhanced ...

Dual Repression by IPA1 Fine‐Tunes OsbZIP79‐Mediated Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual repression by IPA1 fine‐tunes OsbZIP79‐mediated salt tolerance in rice: direct transcriptional inhibition under normal conditions and salt‐induced degradation under stress. This dual mechanism activates OsbZIP79 to regulate Na+/K+ homeostasis and redox balance via downstream genes, enabling optimal salt stress response.

Temporal Trajectories of the Tau Aggregate Interactome Reveal Stage‐Specific Vulnerabilities in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tau populations with different aggregation states associate with distinct sets of proteins in the Alzheimer's disease brain. Proteomic discovery combined with single‐molecule analysis in neurons reveals dynamic associations involving proteostasis, metabolism and RNA biology.

Modulation of the TGF‐β/Smad Signaling Pathway by a Bioactive Oxidized Polygonati Rhizoma Polysaccharide Crosslinked Chitosan Hydrogel as Therapeutic Carrier for Parkinson's Disease Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable, self‐healing COPRP hydrogel integrates structurally defined oxidized Polygonati rhizoma polysaccharide with carboxymethyl chitosan through dynamic Schiff‐base crosslinking. The bioactive matrix scavenges reactive oxygen species, suppresses neuroinflammation, protects dopaminergic neurons, and supports sustained levodopa release.

Quantification of Methionine Oxidation in Cadaveric Wetting/Preservative Solutions

open access: yes, 2019
Wet specimens used in biology classrooms and laboratories, including cadavers, can easily deteriorate into dried specimens if not handled properly. The continuous management of specimens with proper preparation and use of wetting solution is absolutely ...

A Hepatocyte‐to‐Stellate Cell Axis Couples Alternate‐Day Fasting to Liver Fibrosis Resolution via ATG7 S‐Nitrosylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Alternate‐day fasting suppresses mitochondrial complex II assembly via SDHAF4 to upregulate hepatocyte eNOS. The resulting nitric oxide S‐nitrosylates ATG7 at C184 in hepatic stellate cells, restraining autophagic flux and preventing their profibrotic activation.
