Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.

TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 attenuates pulmonary fibroblast activation by suppressing mTOR and restoring autophagic flux

TGF‐β1 stimulation downregulates lysosomal channel TRPML1 in pulmonary fibroblasts. The TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 suppressed fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast activation and collagen production. Five‐Year Outcomes of Laparoscopic Sphincter‐Preserving Surgery for Rectal Cancer: A Prospective Study in Elderly Vietnamese Patients

This prospective study demonstrates that laparoscopic sphincter‐preserving surgery is feasible for elderly patients. While overall survival reaches 70% at 5 years, advanced T‐stage and the omission of neoadjuvant therapy significantly drive recurrence, highlighting the need for personalized geriatric protocols despite logistical challenges.

A Low Psoas Muscle Index Was Associated With a Poorer Overall Survival in Patients Who Underwent Percutaneous Nephrostomy

In patients with malignant ureteral obstruction undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy, sarcopenia defined by a low psoas muscle index was independently associated with poor overall survival on multivariate Cox regression analysis, suggesting that preoperative assessment of psoas muscle index may aid prognostic stratification in this population.
