Statistical methods in support

Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1990
The analysis and interpretation of the data collected in SUPPORT provide great potential for understanding the relationships among treatment choices, patient and physician values and preferences, perceptions about the risks and benefits of treatments, institutional characteristics, and outcomes (as measured by quality of life, survival, and ...

Multivariate Statistical Methods

American Journal of Roentgenology, 2005
This is the 20th in the series designed by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Canadian Association of Radiologists, and the American Journal of Roentgenology. The series, which will ultimately comprise 22 articles, is designed to progressively educate radiologists in the methodologies of rigorous clinical research, from the most basic ...

Statistical methods in learning

1993
In this paper we describe an ESPRIT project known as ‘Stat-Log’ whose purpose is the comparison of learning algorithms. We give a brief summary of some of the algorithms in the project: linear and quadratic discriminant analysis, k nearest neighbour, CART, backpropagation, SMART, ALLOC80 and Pearl's polytree algorithm.

Statistical methods

2009
Abstract This chapter provides an introduction to statistical methods with illustrative examples from public health and epidemiological research. The chapter begins by distinguishing between a study sample and a target population. It goes on to outline different methods of sampling, including probability and non-probability sampling ...

Learning statistical methods

International Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing, 1986
Since at least 1951 anesthesia journals have called for a more rigorous application of statistical methods in research reports. This appeal for statistical excellence actually applies to the researcher, to the clinician journal reader, and to the editor. Thirty five years ago the obligations of these three groups was made clear in an unsigned editorial

Statistical Methods in Immunology

The Journal of Immunology, 1951
Summary and Conclusions The techniques employed in relation to statistical aspects of the experimental material presented in this report no doubt are unfamiliar to many immunologists. Actually, they are relatively simple but extremely useful tools provided by the statisticians.

Statistical Methods for Proteomics

2009
During the last decade, analytical methods for the detection and quantification of proteins and peptides in biological samples have been considerably improved. It is therefore now possible to compare simultaneously the expression levels of hundreds or thousands of proteins in different types of tissue, for example, normal and cancerous, or in different

A method of statistical neurodynamics

Kybernetik, 1974
A method of statistical neurodynamics is presented for treating ensembles of nets of randomly connected neuron-like elements. The concept of a macrostate plays a fundamental role in statistical neurodynamics and a criterion is given for ascertaining that given macroscopic quantities together constitute a macrostate. The activity of a nerve net is shown

Methods in Statistical Kinetics

2010
A variety of recent advances in single-molecule methods are now making possible the routine measurement of the distinct catalytic trajectories of individual enzymes. Unlike their bulk counterparts, these measurements directly reveal the fluctuations inherent to enzymatic dynamics, and statistical measures of these fluctuations promise to greatly ...
