On the method of reflections [PDF]

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 2021
This paper aims at reviewing and analysing the method of reflections. The latter is an iterative procedure designed to linear boundary value problems set in multiply connected domains. Being based on a decomposition of the domain boundary, this method is particularly well-suited to numerical solvers relying on integral representation formulas.

Boosting ridge for the extreme learning machine globally optimised for classification and regression problems

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
This paper explores the boosting ridge (BR) framework in the extreme learning machine (ELM) community and presents a novel model that trains the base learners as a global ensemble.

Designs of trials assessing interventions to improve the peer review process: a vignette-based survey

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2018
Background We aimed to determine the best study designs for assessing interventions to improve the peer review process according to experts’ opinions. Furthermore, for interventions previously evaluated, we determined whether the study designs actually ...

Parameter Estimation of KST-IRT Model under Local Dependence

open access: yesPsych, 2023
A mantra often repeated in the introductory material to psychometrics and Item Response Theory (IRT) is that a Rasch model is a probabilistic version of a Guttman scale. The idea comes from the observation that a sigmoidal item response function provides

Matrix Recipes for Hard Thresholding Methods

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, we present and analyze a new set of low-rank recovery algorithms for linear inverse problems within the class of hard thresholding methods.

Approximation Algorithms for the Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem : Describing two recent methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper provides a description of the two recent approximation algorithms for the Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem, giving the intuitive description of the works of Feige-Singh[1] and Asadpour et.al\ [2].\newline [1] improves the previous $O(\log ...

Phenomenological Renormalization Group Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Some renormalization group approaches have been proposed during the last few years which are close in spirit to the Nightingale phenomenological procedure. In essence, by exploiting the finite size scaling hypothesis, the approximate critical behavior of

Moving in the Dark: Enlightening the Spatial Population Ecology of European Cave Salamanders

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We assessed individual interactions, movement ecology and activity patterns of a subterranean population of Speleomantes strinatii, applying spatial capture–recapture modeling to a photographic dataset of 104 individuals. ABSTRACT Space use and movement are fundamental aspects of organisms' ecology, mirroring individual fitness, behavior, and life ...
