The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Methods for Solving Discrete Optimization Problems [PDF]
The article specifies a group of discrete optimization problems, such as location problems and tour problems, from the aspect of individual approaches (exact, heuristic, and metaheuristic) and seeks to explain all the approaches on specific problems.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Artificial Neural Network Methods for the Solution of Second Order Boundary Value Problems
: We present a method for solving partial differential equations using artificial neural networks and an adaptive collocation strategy. In this procedure, a coarse grid of training points is used at the initial training stages, while more points are ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

New Iterative Methods for Solving Nonlinear Problems with One and Several Unknowns
In this manuscript, a new type of study regarding the iterative methods for solving nonlinear models is presented. The goal of this work is to design a new fourth-order optimal family of two-step iterative schemes, with the flexibility through weight ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.
