Diastereomeric Monomers Enable Anion‐Exchange Membranes With Controlled Local Polymer Backbone Flexibility and High Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stereochemistry enables control of ion‐exchange membrane properties via local backbone flexibility without altering the polymer composition. Syn‐enriched membranes show higher water uptake and improved water‐electrolysis performance, whereas anti‐enriched membranes exhibit higher hydration efficiency and improved mechanical properties.

Slice imaging of methyl bromide photofragmentation at 193 nm

open access: yes, 2014
The photodissociation of methyl bromide at 193 nm is studied using slice imaging. From the measured photofragment translational energy and angular distributions we were able to extract methyl-state-specific dissociation channel yields and crossing ...

Human‐Guided Bayesian Optimization Enables High‐Throughput Laser Annealing of Mesoporous SiOx Anodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An empirical‐aided active learning framework is developed to optimize high‐throughput laser‐induced photothermal annealing of silicon suboxide anodes. By integrating probabilistic machine learning with empirical domain knowledge, this approach achieves optimal electrochemical performance using limited experiments.

Feasible Fumigant-Herbicide System Alternatives to Methyl Bromide for Bell Pepper Producers [PDF]

open access: yes
With the current methyl bromide (MeBr) system for producing Georgia’s peppers being phased out, alternative fumigant and herbicide systems for producers are analyzed.

New insights into the supression of plant pathogenic fungus (Phytophthora cinnamomi) by compost leachates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Use of compost as a soil conditioner and low-grade fertiliser is gaining popularity worldwide (Epstein, 1997). Compost not only adds plant nutrients to the soil, but also improves physical properties of soil such as buffering capacity, cation exchange ...

Polarization Engineering in Vinylene‐Linked COFs Toward Efficient Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A vinyl‐linked covalent organic framework (COF‐DIBPY) was synthesized on a conductive substrate for memristor applications. Redox reactions and bromide migration enable low‐voltage (0.5V) conductance switching with high analog on/off ratio (15.7). The device was further integrated into a speech emotion recognition system for acoustic simulation and ...

Open-Field Soilless Culture of Vegetables

open access: yesEDIS, 2015
This document is about open-field soilless culture as an alternative system for vegetable production. It explains the need for alternatives to traditional soil-based methods due to challenges such as land scarcity and the phase-out of soil fumigants ...

Managing Nematodes Without Methyl Bromide

open access: yes, 2010
Methyl bromide is an effective pre-plant soil fumigant used to control nematodes in many high-input, high-value crops in the United States, including vegetables, nursery plants, ornamentals, tree fruits, strawberries, and grapes.

Facet‐Dependent Activity of Fe3S4 Crystal in Peroxydisulfate Activation for Organic Pollutants Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fe3S4 crystal with the exposed [001] facet exhibits higher catalytic activity for activating peroxydisulfate (PDS) to degrade clothianidin (CLO), which can be attributed to the dissolved Fe‐induced homogeneous catalytic process; while Fe3S4 crystal with the exposed [1‐21] facet exhibits excellent catalytic stability and durability, thereby boosting the

Efficacy of the Fumigant Ethanedinitrile to Control the Ham Mite, Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Sarcoptiformes: Acaridae), and Its Sorption on Dry-Cured Ham

open access: yesInsects
Management of stored-product pests has historically relied on fumigation when pest populations become large. However, the ban of the fumigant methyl bromide and the ineffectiveness of other pesticides stress the need for alternative fumigants. Therefore,
