Isolation and characterization of Methanosphaera sp. ISO3-F5, a member of a novel and widespread species of rumen methanogens growing with methanol plus hydrogen

open access: yesThe Microbe
Rumen methanogens predominantly fall into two physiological groups: hydrogenotrophs which use hydrogen (H2) to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4), and methylotrophs which use H2 to reduce methanol and methylamines as substrates for ...

DKK1 Targeting in Corneal Schwann Cells Rescues Axonal Regeneration and Mechanosensory Function After Corneal Injury

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 104, Issue 6, June 2026.
The schematic illustrates that corneal injury imparted by a stromal incision or by toxic chemical exposure causes corneal Schwann cells (cSCs) and axons to degenerate rapidly, resulting in impaired mechanosensory function. We hypothesized that repair cSCs, which develop post injury, are an as‐yet‐untested cellular target for axonal regeneration.

Discovery of N-Substituted (2-Phenylcyclopropyl)methylamines as Functionally Selective Serotonin 2C Receptor Agonists for Potential Use as Antipsychotic Medications

open access: yes, 2017
A series of N-substituted (2-phenylcyclopropyl)methylamines were designed and synthesized, with the aim of finding serotonin 2C (5-HT2C)-selective agonists with a preference for Gq signaling.

Too close for comfort: Self‐crowding transforms protein structure and stability beyond volume exclusion

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Proteins operate in crowded physiological environments, yet their conformational and oligomeric states are largely inferred from experiments performed under dilute buffer conditions. Here, we show that for lysozyme (LYS) and bovine serum albumin (BSA), self‐crowding at physiologically relevant concentrations alters protein structure and ...

The biogeochemical cycling of ammonium and methylamines in intertidal sediments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The methylamines (MAs) are chemical analogues of ammonia and contain one, two or three methyl groups. This study looked at their occurrence in inter-tidal sediments and at changes in their abundance during tidal cycling, including forced and naturally ...

From Dogfish to Dogs: Trimethylamines Protect Proteins from Urea

open access: yes, 1986
The accumulation of methylamine solutes to counteract perturbation of proteins by urea seems to be an important and phylogenetically widespread phenomenon.

Mechanistic Insight Into Ionizable Cationic Lipid‐Mediated Endosomal Escape via Transient Lipid Complexes

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 32, 8 June 2026.
Coarse‐grained simulations show that the formation of transient anionic–cationic lipid pairs regulates the rate‐limiting step for the lamellar‐to‐hexagonal phase transition in mixtures of anionic and cationic lipids mimicking the endosomal membrane after fusion with lipid‐based nanoparticles, thus playing an important role in the endosomal escape of ...

Hydrodehalogenation of Alkyl Iodides with Base-Mediated Hydrogenation and Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation: Application to the Asymmetric Synthesis of N‑Protected α‑Methylamines

open access: yes, 2015
We report a very mild synthesis of N-protected α-methylamines from the corresponding amino acids. Carboxyl groups of amino acids are reduced to iodomethyl groups via hydroxymethyl intermediates.

Investigation into the delivery and evaluation of a unique Avena sativa (Oat) Lipid Extract on skin barrier using LC‒MS/MS, Raman spectroscopy, immunostaining analysis and skin efficacy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 48, Issue 3, Page 500-517, June 2026.
Abstract Objectives Oat lipids are rich in ceramides. In this investigation, we analysed the delivery of a specific Oat Lipid Extract derived from Avena sativa, comprising ‘skin identical’ ratios of fatty acids, ceramides and cholesterol/sterol. This investigation is the first reported investigation of oat lipids utilizing Raman spectroscopy for the ...
