Patch testing with methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone 200 ppm aq. detects significantly more contact allergy than 100 ppm. A multicentre study within the European Environmental and Contact Dermatitis Research Group.

open access: yes, 2014
Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI) are the active ingredients in commonly used preservative systems (e.g. Kathon CG(®) ). MCI/MI is present in the European baseline patch test series at 100 ppm aq.

Mapping of Former Strategies and Future Needs for Regulatory Prevention of Skin Sensitization: Cosmetic Products

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
This study identified multiple areas for improvement in the regulatory risk assessment process. Conclusions based on predictive sensitization data should be made with caution, read‐across data from known sensitizers should be utilized, and epidemiological and patient threshold data should be prioritized in decision‐making.

Occupational Allergic Contact Dermatitis From Over‐Ear Headphones: Chemical Analysis Reveals Octylisothiazolinone and Other Potential Skin Sensitizers

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Over‐ear headphones are a growing source of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Identifying well‐known and new culprit sensitizers in such products is challenging because of a lack of labelling and limited cooperation from manufacturers.

Targeted keratin repair: A plant‐based approach to hair strength and surface restoration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Application of Avena strigosa seed extract may reinforce keratin bonding, restoring hair fibre integrity by promoting intramolecular interactions at damaged sites of keratin proteins. Abstract Objective Chemical and thermal stress disrupts the intramolecular and intermolecular interactions that stabilize hair keratin, leading to structural degradation ...

Contact Sensitization in Patients With Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia: Patch Test Results With an Extended Baseline Series in Consecutive Patients

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 95, Issue 2, Page 192-199, August 2026.
Sensitization to propolis, shellac and gallate mix is FFA‐associated, but its relevance is largely unknown. Sensitization to salicylates is frequent and associated with symptoms of intolerance to sun exposure or sunscreens. No significant improvement by allergen avoidance is identified.

The Role of Cleaning Products in Epidemic Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Methylchloroisothiazolinone/Methylisothiazolinone

open access: yes, 2018
Background Sensitivity to methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI)/methylisothiazolinone (MI) has increased rapidly over recent years. This increase is mainly related to the extensive use of high concentrations of MI in cosmetic products, although a growing ...

Patch Testing With Methylchloroisothiazolinone/Methylisothiazolinone Using a New Diagnostic Mix-A Multicenter Study From the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group

open access: yes, 2021
BACKGROUND: In the early 1980s, a preservative containing a mixture of methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI) in a ratio of 3:1 was introduced. This mixture (mix) has been patch tested at 100 ppm (0.01%) worldwide and at 200 ppm

Effectiveness and Tolerability of Topical Amitriptyline 10% Plus Lidocaine 2% Gel in Adults With Post‐Traumatic Trigeminal Neuropathic Pain: A Real‐World Evidence Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 53, Issue 8, Page 1550-1561, August 2026.
A compounded amitriptyline 10% plus lidocaine 2% mucoadhesive gel was associated with substantial pain improvement and favourable tolerability in adults with post‐traumatic trigeminal neuropathic pain (PTNP). These findings support targeted mucosal delivery as a promising practical local option and a potential medication‐sparing strategy, particularly ...
