Exposure to Methylmethacrylate in an Orthopaedic Operating Theatre [PDF]

open access: yesOccupational Medicine, 1996
Methylmethacrylate (MMA) bone cement is an acrylic plastic polymer used by orthopaedic surgeons in joint replacement surgery. It is reconstituted in the operating theatre, immediately prior to its use, by mixing liquid acrylic monomer with powdered polymer. MMA monomer is a recognized irritant and sensitizing agent.

Zinc Grid Based Transparent Electrodes for Organic Photovoltaics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A transparent flexible electrode based on an embedded zinc grid with ≈1 µm linewidth is reported, and its utility as a drop‐in replacement for indium‐tin oxide coated glass electrodes in organic photovoltaic devices is demonstrated. The zinc grids are fabricated using the unconventional approach of condensation coefficient modulation, using a ...

Engineering von Transmembran‐Alkan‐Monooxygenasen zur Verbesserung des Schlüsselschritts in der Biosynthese des Polymervorläufers Tulipalin A

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.

Coordinative Ring‐Opening Polymerization of Limonene Carbamate towards Phosgene‐ and Isocyanate‐Free Polyurethane

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
This study presents a phosgene‐ and isocyanate‐free route for the synthesis of polyurethanes using (R)‐limonene as a bio‐based starting material. The synthesis of the cyclic limonene‐based carbamate monomer LU is achieved in high yields using dimethyl carbonate as a sustainable, less hazardous phosgene surrogate and is verified by NMR, SC‐XRD, ESI‐MS ...

A Versatile Route to Shape Polymer Nanoparticles by Deforming Nanoreactors Made from Magnetic Surfactants

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 21, May 19, 2025.
Shaping up! Polymer nanoparticles are typically spherical, constrained by their structures. Now, a unique magnetic surfactant enables rod‐shaped polymer nanoparticles. Through emulsion polymerization and a magnetic field, the surfactant elongates nanoreactor droplets.
