1994Abstract My suggestion is that metrical structure can be semantically functional: in other words, that there are non-technical correlations between metre and semantics in Homer. When reciting a verse, a singer, or a rhapsode, or an actor may pause for a moment, then resume his words. How do we measure this? In microseconds?
