Complications of Metrizamide Myelography

open access: yesArchives of Neurology, 1983
Adverse neurobehavioral reactions have not been emphasized as a complication of metrizamide myelography. We encountered six such reactions in approximately 250 metrizamide myelograms. All reactions followed either cervical myelography or panmyelography via lumbar puncture.

Adverse side effects of metrizamide and Iopamidolo in myelography

open access: yesNeuroradiology, 1982
Nonionic water-soluble contrast medium, at first metrizamide and later Iopamidolo was used for lumbar myelography. Three serious neurological complications were noted: one case of total aphasia, one case of generalized seizures, and one of myoclonic ...

Metrizamide Meningitis

Southern Medical Journal, 1984
A 39-year-old man had fever, nuchal rigidity, vomiting, and mental confusion within 24 hours after myelography with metrizamide, a water-soluble contrast medium. Cloudy cerebrospinal fluid showing pleocytosis, a significantly elevated level of protein, and a low glucose value suggested septic meningitis, but rapid resolution of signs of meningeal ...

The effects of metrizamide on the lung

Pediatric Radiology, 1983
The pathologic effects of metrizamide on the lung were studied at 24 h and 48 h after its instillation in varying concentrations selectively into the right lungs of a series of immature dogs. Iso-osmolar and slightly hyperosmolar concentrations of metrizamide were found to cause mononuclear interstitial infiltration, focal areas of pneumonia and in ...

Metrizamide ventriculography in syringomyelia

Neurology, 1980
Computed tomography (CT) both with and without contrast agents has been used to diagnose syringomyelia. We report a case in which the diagnosis was made by injection of metrizamide into a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Continuity of the syringomyelic cavity with the ventricular system was demonstrated.

DACRYOCYSTOGRAPHY WITH AMIPAQUE (METRIZAMIDE)

Acta Ophthalmologica, 1977
Amipaque is found to be very suitable for dacryocystography because it has a low osmolality and high viscosity, and is in addition the only aqueous contrast medium currently available which in higher concentrations does not cause pain when applied to the conjunctival sac.

Excretion of metrizamide in milk

The British Journal of Radiology, 1981
Metrizamide (2- {[3-(acetylamino)-5-(acetylmethylamino)-2,4,6-triiodobenzoyl]amino}-2-deoxy-D)-glucose) is a water-soluble non-ionic, radiographic contrast medium used mainly in myelography. After intrathecal or subarachnoid administration, the drug is absorbed into the blood (Golman, 1975) and is excreted unchanged in the urine with 55–96% of the dose

Metrizamide in Pediatric Myelography

Radiology, 1977
Metrizamide, a new water-solution iodinated contrast medium, was evaluated in 63 infants and children, most of whom had lumbosacral or low thoracic lesions. The diagnostic quality was found to be good, and no serious complications or permanent sequelae were encountered. Chief complications were headache, nausea, vomiting and fever.
