False discovery rate‐controlled multiple testing for union null hypotheses: a knockoff‐based approach

open access: yesBiometrics, Volume 79, Issue 4, Page 3497-3509, December 2023., 2023
Abstract False discovery rate (FDR) controlling procedures provide important statistical guarantees for replicability in signal identification based on multiple hypotheses testing. In many fields of study, FDR controling procedures are used in high‐dimensional (HD) analyses to discover features that are truly associated with the outcome. In some recent

Dimension‐independent Markov chain Monte Carlo on the sphere

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Statistics, Volume 50, Issue 4, Page 1818-1858, December 2023., 2023
Abstract We consider Bayesian analysis on high‐dimensional spheres with angular central Gaussian priors. These priors model antipodally symmetric directional data, are easily defined in Hilbert spaces and occur, for instance, in Bayesian density estimation and binary level set inversion.

Analog Photonics Computing for Information Processing, Inference, and Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
Optical computing utilizes photons and optics‐related technologies for efficient computation. The demand for high‐performance photonic components is increasing due to their attractive properties such as practical computation scaling, massive parallelization, low energy consumption, broad bandwidth, and low latency. This review discusses the physics and

The spread of urban–rural areas and rural depopulation in central Spain

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 4, Page 863-877, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Europe faces serious demographic imbalances: increasingly, populations are concentrated in urban areas and their surroundings, while rural areas face depopulation. Thanks to a simple methodology identifying the trends in the different settlement structure, this article explores the causes that can justify the formation of such spatial trends ...

The local‐level impact of human capital investment within the EU cohesion policy in Poland

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 303-325, April 2022., 2022
Abstract The goal of this study is to examine the effects of investment in human capital, as funded by EU cohesion policy, on economic development in Poland at the local (LAU 2) level, that is, at the level of municipalities. We found evidence that human capital investment has a positive effect on local revenues.

“The grass is greener on the other side”: The relationship between the Brexit referendum results and spatial inequalities at the local level

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 1481-1500, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Despite seven decades of development of the European Union project, on 23 June 2016, the United Kingdom, Europe and the rest of the world were surprised when the Leave campaign won the Brexit referendum, offering an extraordinary case study for researchers.

Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for hierarchical clustering of dynamic causal models

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 42, Issue 10, Page 2973-2989, July 2021., 2021
In this article, we address technical difficulties that arise when applying Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to hierarchical models designed to perform clustering in the space of latent parameters of subject‐wise generative models for effective brain connectivity.

Processus de métropolisation dans l’espace frontalier post-soviétique : l’exemple de Rostov-sur-le-Don

open access: yesCybergeo, 2011
This paper focuses on the process of metropolization in Russia, through an illustration: the border city of Rostov-on-Don. Our purpose is to determine if the city participates in the current metropolization process, and with which system it interacts ...
