Splicing and Coil Winding of MgB2 Superconductors
Abstract Conventional induction heaters for extrusion purposes have an efficiency of only 55 60 % due to the resistive losses in the copper coils putting up the magnetic field. By using superconductor and DC current these losses can be minimized and the overall efficiency can be increased to as much as 90 %.
