Dissolution of MgO based refractories in CaO-Al2O3-MgO-SiO2 slag
Abstract Dissolution of different types of MgO based refractories into molten CaO-Al2O3-MgO-SiO2 slag was studied. Formation of micro spinel particles by addition of either colloidal alumina or micro alumina powder in the MgO matrix efficiently reduced the dissolution. The dissolution of MgO was found to be controlled by the slag penetration into the

Production of MgO/TiC Composites From MgO‐C Recyclates Using Spark Plasma Sintering
Using the spark plasma sintering technique, MgO/TiC composites are manufactured from recycled MgO‐C refractories stemming from the steel production that were mixed with titanium powder. This article shows, how the size of the Ti grains and their distribution in the powder mixture affect the local carbon concentration in TiC.

The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Shot noise in magnetic tunnel junctions from first principles
We compute the shot noise in ballistic and disordered Fe/MgO/Fe tunnel junctions by a wave function-matching method. For tunnel barriers with no more than 5 atomic layers we find a suppression of the Fano factor as a function of the magnetic ...

Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.
