In this paper, a well-known Hamel’s result is extended and the physical and geometric consequences of zero electric current density are studied for MHD flows, with orthogonal magnetic and velocity field distributions, by taking a new approach.

Variably Inclined MHD Parallel Flows

Steady Plane Orthogonal MHD Flows
ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1992AbstractComplex variable technique is used to study steady plane orthogonal magnetohydrodynamic flows of a viscous incompressible fluid of infinite electrical conductivity. The equations of motion are recast in variables z = x + iy and z̄ = x − iy. Four exact integrals for four different flow geometries and Hamel's problem are considered to illustrate ...

Steady transverse MHD viscous flows
Canadian Journal of Physics, 1976Steady plane flows of viscous incompressible fluids of finite electrical conductivity in the presence of a transverse magnetic field are studied. The only flows with straight streamline pattern are shown to be those with parallel or concurrent streamlines and if the streamlines are involutes of a curve, then they are concentric circles.

In this chapter we first consider steady radiation hydrodynamical winds in the non-relativistic regime, focusing our attention on the topological nature of critical points. These radiatively driven winds are supposed to operate in nova outbursts, neutron star winds, and black-hole ones.

MHD Flow in Finned Conducting Ducts
ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1980AbstractIn the present paper investigation is made of magnetohydrodynamic flow of electrically conducting fluid through conducting rectangular ducts with internal fins from the walls which are perpendicular to the magnetic field. An analytical treatment is given to the solution which reduces to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of second ...

Diagnostic methods in combustion MHD flows
9th Fluid and PlasmaDynamics Conference, 1976Methods for the determination of the important properties of combustion MHD channel flows are reviewed, with emphasis on spatially resolved measurements interior to the flow that have actually been applied to combustion MHD systems, or that have reasonable promise of being so applied.

In this proceeding I present recent works dealing with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations describing resistive accretion disks continuously launching large-scale, self-collimated MHD jets. In particular, I discuss the physical conditions required to produce these outflows and the related numerical issues.

Magnetic fields are ubiquitous in the Universe, often coupled to turbulent motions that are compressible as well. Most models do not take compressibility into account except for those relying on a Burgers—like approach; restricting the variations to one space dimension, several extensions to MHD of the Burgers equation have been proposed with various ...
