Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

The Correlation of In Vivo MR Spectroscopy and Ex Vivo 2-Hydroxyglutarate Concentration for the Prediction of Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Mutation Status in Diffuse Glioma

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status is an important biomarker in the glioma-defining subtype and corresponding prognosis. This study proposes a straightforward method for 2-hydroxyglutarate (2-HG) quantification by MR spectroscopy for IDH ...

The Youngest Planet to Have a Spin-Orbit Alignment Measurement AU Mic b [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
We report measurements of the sky-projected spin-orbit angle for AU Mic b, a Neptune-size planet orbiting a very young (∼20 Myr) nearby pre-main-sequence M-dwarf star, which also hosts a bright, edge-on, debris disk.

Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

Photonic crystal fibres: mapping Maxwell’s equations onto a Schrödinger equation eigenvalue problem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2006
We consider photonic crystal fibres (PCFs) made from arbitrary base materials and introduce a short-wavelength approximation which allows for a mapping of the Maxwell’s equations onto a dimensionless eigenvalue equations which has the form of the ...

Stress History Establishes a Transient Tolerant State That Shapes Antibiotic Survival Upon Resuscitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput single‐cell analysis of resuscitating bacteria reveals a starvation‐history‐dependent transiently tolerant subpopulation that survives β$\beta$‐lactam exposure by temporarily reducing growth. Distinct from classical persisters, these actively growing yet dynamically modulated cells dominate survival across clinically relevant antibiotic
