Charge‐Driven Self‐Assembly of Cholesterol Surfactants into Biofunctional Nanodiscs with Antiviral Activity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A modular synthesis strategy for cholesterol‐oligo‐glycerol‐based surfactants with tunable nonionic to anionic head groups is reported. The precise control of multivalent surface charges directs self‐assembly and transforms cholesterol vesicles into nanodiscs.

Upcycling of Waste Plastics into Carboxylic Acids for Biodegradable Surfactants

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Biodegradable surfactants have now been created from post‐consumer waste HDPE. High conversion (>80%) is maintained throughout all major process steps including pyrolysis, hydroformylation, and oxidation. The utility of the plastic‐derived carboxylate surfactant is confirmed via critical micelle concentration, surface tension, and foaming measurements.

Synergistic Two‐Color Photochemical Polymer Network Formation and Lithography

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Two photoswitches, able to respond to disparate wavelengths, are integrated into multi‐functional polymer architectures to form a photoresist that responds to curing upon irradiation with two distinct monochromatic colors of light, enabling two‐color lithography.

Using Polymerization‐Induced Self‐Assembly in Orthogonally‐Reactive Dispersants to Design Tough Nanostructured Materials: Application to Epoxy Networks

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Polymerization‐induced self‐assembly (PISA) can be efficiently performed in orthogonally reactive dispersants such as epoxides (DGEBA or ECC) to generate a range of reactive block copolymer dispersions displaying different morphologies. Subsequent polymerization of the epoxide dispersant (through epoxy‐amine reaction or cationic photopolymerization ...
