Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of magnesium alloys

open access: yes, 2022
S.341-380Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of Mg alloys is intergranular (IGSCC) or transgranular (TGSCC). A continuous or nearly continuous second phase, typically along grain boundaries, causes IGSCC by micro-galvanic corrosion of the adjacent Mg matrix.

Novel Photovoltaic Micro Crack Detection Technique [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Device and Materials Reliability, 2019
This paper presents a novel detection technique for inspecting solar cells' micro cracks. Initially, the solar cell is captured using the electroluminescence (EL) method, then processed by the proposed technique. The technique consists of three stages: The first stage combines two images, the first image is the crack-free (healthy) solar cell, whereas ...

Cracking caused by cutting of plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coatings and its relation to the structural features of coatings deposited at different initial substrate temperatures [PDF]

open access: yesHemijska Industrija, 2017
The present study estimated the cracking phenomenon in as-plasma-sprayed hydroxylapatite coatings (HACs) after they were being subjected to the severe cutting conditions in the direction perpendicular to the coating/substrate interface.

Analysis of process variables via CFD to evaluate the performance of a FCC riser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Feedstock conversion and yield products are studied through a 3D model simulating the main reactor of the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) is used with Eulerian-Eulerian approach to predict the fluid catalytic ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Systematic detection and evaluation of cracking behavior of flawed brittle sandstones with AE and 3D-DIC techniques.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Determination of the cracking behavior during crack propagation helps to better understand damage and fracture processes in brittle rocks. The paper studies the cracking behavior of rocks on three scales: macro-deformation (or macro-cracking), internal ...
