Study on the Effect of Crack Density and Micro-Cracking Block Size of In Situ Softening Semi-Rigid Base

open access: yesBuildings
Reflection cracking in semi-rigid bases is a widespread distress that undermines highway safety. Priority should be given to this issue to ensure the normal performance of large-scale semi-rigid base asphalt pavements that have reached the end of their ...

Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Cracking during thermal post-processing of laser powder bed fabricated CM247LC Ni-superalloy

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
The causes of cracking during thermal post-processing of laser powder bed fabricated (LPBF) CM247LC Ni-superalloy have been examined. Micro-hardness measurements and microstructural analyses were undertaken following short aging heat treatments around ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

The Threshold of Micro Crack Propagation under Mixed Mode

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1985
In order to investigate the threshold condition of micro fatigue crack propagation under mixed mode, tests of cyclic plane bending, cyclic torsion and their combinations are carried out with a stress ratio R=-l. Annealed cracked specimens made of carbon steel are used in the tests.
