New applications for micro-EDM
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004Abstract With the development of the WEDG (wire-electrodischarge-grinding) it became possible to produce very small electrodes or products like e.g. ejection pins or cores for mould inserts. A new field for the WEDG is the production of milling tools for micro-cutting.

Deburring microfeatures using micro-EDM
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2009Demands for miniature components are rapidly increased in the field of optics, electronics, and medicine. Various machining methods have been introduced for the fabrication of complex three-dimensional microfeatures. However, burrs, which are an undesired but unavoidable by-product of most machining processes, cause many problems in assembly ...

Abstract This paper concerns with an experimental research on the machining of sintered diamond (SD) by electrical discharge machining (EDM). Experiments were carried out with four types of SD, composed of 1-, 3-, 10-, and 20 μm-diameter diamond particles. Tungsten carbide alloy was also tested for comparison.

Micro-EDM is an extensively used micromachining process to fabricate microcavities on metallic surfaces. Material erosion in micro-EDM is realized by imparting controlled sparks between electrodes submerged under the dielectric fluid. Recently, micromanufacturing is in demand and resulted in miniaturization of switches, screws, gears, shafts, and other

Energetic Modeling of a Micro-EDM Machine
Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Multi-Material Micro Manufacture, 2013The energetic model of a micro-EDM machine is presented. The model considers the energy required by the axis drivers, the micro-EDM generator, the air compressor and the chiller of the dielectric fluid. The model parameters have been experimentally identified during the micro-EDM machining of a blind hole.
