Abstract A finite element method model has been elaborated aiming at a deeper insight into the influence of microstructure on micro-galvanic corrosion of Al alloys. The model considers a dynamic corroding surface and takes into account kinetic data from local electrochemical reactions, transport of O 2 and ionic species (e.g., Al 3+ , H + , Cl ...

The Special Role of Anodic Second Phases in the Micro-galvanic Corrosion of EW75 Mg Alloy
Electrochimica Acta, 2016Abstract It is well known that second phases act as micro-cathodes in the corrosion of traditional Mg alloys. However, the effect of second phases on the corrosion behavior of Mg-rare earth (RE) alloys is ambiguous in view of the second phases consisting of Mg and more active RE elements. The role of second phases in the corrosion of cast EW75 (Mg–5Y–

Effect of anodic T phase on surface micro-galvanic corrosion of biodegradable Mg-Zn-Zr-Nd alloys
Applied Surface Science, 2018Abstract A complete understanding of the role of Mg-Zn-Nd (T) phase in surface micro-galvanic corrosion of Mg alloys has not been fully developed. Therefore, the microstructure evolution and corrosion behavior in simulated body fluid (SBF) of Mg-2Zn-0.6Zr-xNd alloys (x = 0, 0.2, 0.6 and 1 wt%) were investigated. It was found that the MgZn phase in Mg-

Abstract This work is a further step to develop a finite element model to simulate localized corrosion of aluminum alloys driven by micro-galvanic effects. The focus herein is to explore the effect of density (porosity and tortuosity) of Al(OH)3 precipitates generated both on the electrode surface and in the liquid phase.

Micro-galvanic Corrosion of Cu/Ru Couple in KIO4 Solution
2017This chapter focuses on the study of micro-galvanic corrosion of the Cu/Ru couple in KIO4 solution. Practical nobility across the Cu/Ru interface was evaluated by Volta potential mapping, and the morphological changes were monitored by in situ atomic force microscopy measurement during exposure in a KIO4 solution.

Abstract The corrosion behavior of lath bainitic and granular bainitic steels in 0.01 mol/L NaCl solution was studied by SEM and TEM observation, electrochemical monitoring and weight loss test. The results indicate that the micro galvanic couple forms between the steel matrix and the secondary phase, which causes non-uniform micro corrosion on ...
