Fuzzy cutting force modelling in micro-milling
Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2013Reliable prediction of cutting forces is essential for micromilling. In this paper, a fuzzy cutting force modelling method based on subtractive clustering method filters the noise and estimates the instantaneous cutting forces using observations acquired by sensors during cutting experiments.

Command shaping for micro-mills and CNC controllers
Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005Micro-milling requires both high speed and high accuracy in order to economically produce parts with features on the scale of 1 micron. Because micro-mills are small, they are more flexible than traditional large scale machines and therefore vibration is a problem. Since they also require high positioning precision, even small vibrations of the cutting

Machined channel quality and tool life using cermet micro-mill in micro-milling aluminum alloy
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2018Based on the superiority of self-developed cermet micro-mill over commercial cemented tungsten micro-mill in our previous work, the cutting characteristics, machined channel quality, and tool wear were investigated in this work, aiming at the evaluation of tool performance of this cermet micro-mill during micro-milling aluminum alloy 2024.

Performance Evaluation of Micro Milling Installations
Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Multi-Material Micro Manufacture, 2013Micro manufacturing has developed into many areas over the past decade. Several manufacturing technologies are available but the precision and accuracy of the techniques are still difficult to get access to. Typically the capability information of micro milling equipment is based on specifications given by the machine deliverers.

Determination of Cutting Forces for Micro Milling
ASME 2008 International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference, Volume 2, 2008To enhance the implementation of micro milling, it is necessary to clearly understand the dynamic characteristics of micro milling so that proper machining parameters can be used to meet the requirements of application. By taking the effect of minimum chip thickness and rake angle into account, a new cutting force model of micro-milling which is ...

Continuous casting of steel at micro mills
Steel in Translation, 2016The continuous casting of steel at micro mills is analyzed. Recommendations are made with a view to increasing the casting efficiency at low-speed single-strand machines: improvement in metal quality; extension of casting runs; increase in refractory life; and reduction in costs.

Micro-milling machinability of pure molybdenum
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2019As a result of the miniaturization of machined shapes, the conventional micro-milling technology has been widely used in many industrial areas. However, the machining of some types of materials proved to be very difficult. One of the hard-to-machine materials is also pure molybdenum, which, thanks to its high melting temperature, is used, besides ...

Micro-milling of unreinforced and reinforced polypropylene
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2017It is essential to determine the micro-machinability performance of polymer and glass fiber–reinforced polymer composite in order to effectively utilize the polymer and its composite as an engineering material at the micro-scale world. However, a literature survey revealed that not much work was done on the micro-milling of polymer and its composite ...
