Micro-scale corrosion behaviours of the Fe-based amorphous alloy coating in alkaline solutions in three-dimensions

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Despite extensive research on the corrosion of the Fe-based amorphous alloy coatings (AACs) has been carried out, yet, regarding the corrosion morphology of the Fe-based AACs in NaOH solution, the current findings only indicate the existence of localized

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

The Evaluation of Micro-Pit Life with the DBR method for Rolling-Sliding Contact

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2011
AbstractIn this study, we evaluate the effect of supplied oil quantity and contact bulk temperature on micro-pitting life using two-roller contact machine. To quantify the failure rate of damaged surfaces of micro-pitting occurrence, the DBR(Dark and Bright Ratio) method was effectively implemented for observing not a sudden occurrence of macro-pitting

Effect of Pre-deformation on Microstructure and Pitting Corrosion Behavior of UNS S32205

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2017
The present work studied the microstructure of strain-induced martensite (SIM) in a UNS S32205 DSS under different strains. The material was strained at room temperature from 0 to 30% and the change of microstructure in the duplex stainless steel was ...

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Corrosion fatigue performance of modified 17-4PH in simulated geothermal environment

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
Corrosion fatigue behavior of a new candidate material for geothermal turbine blade, modified 17-4PH, was investigated in detail. The environmental acceleration of crack growth rate was discussed in terms of ∆K.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

INVESTIGATION OF MICRO-PITS FORMATION ON BILLET SURFACES IN PLANE STRAIN EXTRUSION

open access: yesJurnal Teknologi, 2016
Extrusion is a process of pushing a material through a die to yield a desired cross-section product. The application of surface texture has become well known for enhancing tribological performance. In this research, the effect of micro-pits embedded on a work piece lubricated with vegetable oil using plain strain extrusion were studied and compared ...
