IN-AIR MICRO-PIXE ANALYSIS OF TISSUE SAMPLES

International Journal of PIXE, 2002
Micro-PIXE is capable of providing spatial distributions of elements in the micro-meter scale and its application to biology is useful to elucidate the cellular metabolism. Since, in this method, a sample target is usually irradiated with proton or α-particle beams in vacuum, beam heating results in evaporation of volatile elements and shrinking of ...

Calibration of micro-PIXE analysis of sulfide minerals

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1987
Abstract Two different standardization methods have been used in micro-PIXE analysis of several hundred sulfide mineral specimens. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed and the compatibility of the two sets of results is investigated.

Micro-PIXE within magmatic inclusions using GUPIX software

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1993
Abstract We have specifically developed the micro-PIXE method in order to study trace elements in volcanic glasses and in melt inclusions trapped in minerals. The elements of interest are contained between Sc and Nb, these elements being useful tracers of the lava generation processes.

MICRO-PIXE FOR SINGLE CELL ANALYSIS

International Journal of PIXE, 2012
The knowledge of the intracellular distribution of biological relevant metals is important to understand their mechanisms of action in cells, either for physiological, toxicological or pathological processes. However, the direct detection of trace metals in single cells is a challenging task that requires sophisticated analytical developments.

MICRO-PIXE APPLICATION TO THE SPHALERITE-GALENA GEOTHERMOMETER

International Journal of PIXE, 1997
We have applied the micro-PIXE technique to determining the cadmium content in sphalerite ( ZnS ) and galena ( PbS ) for use in geothermometry in the Bulawan gold-silver telluride deposit, Philippines. This geothermometry is based on the temperature control on the cadmium distribution between sphalerite and galena.

Strontium depth distribution in human bone measured by micro-PIXE

X-Ray Spectrometry, 2009
<p>Strontium is naturally present in human bone, where it may exert beneficial or detrimental health effects depending on its concentration. The way strontium influences bone health and the concentrations at which the beneficial/detrimental health effects of strontium become important are still unknown, due partly to the difficulty of assessing ...

Micro-PIXE analysis of major elements in mineral specimens

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1993
Abstract Trace element analysis of mineral grains by micro-PIXE demands prior knowledge of major element concentrations from which the appropriate matrix corrections are derived. We describe the micro-PIXE determination of major elements using 750 keV protons.

Characterization of Dyrrhachium silver coins by micro-PIXE method

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2000
Abstract Ancient silver coins (drachms) issued by the Greek city Dyrrhachium during 68–43 years BC were analysed non-destructively by micro-PIXE method. The selected 27 drachms, including four imitations, belong to the numismatic collection of the Hungarian National Museum (HNM).

Application of micro-PIXE method to ore geology

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1999
Specific examples of ore mineral analysis by micro-PIXE are presented in this paper. For mineralogical usage it is essential to construct a specimen chamber which is designed exclusively for mineral analysis. In most of the analysis of natural minerals, selection of absorbers is essential in order to obtain optimum results.

Micro-PIXE studies of char populations in northern Canada

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1999
Abstract Micro-PIXE analysis of trace elements in otoliths has been used as the basis for several projects on char, a fish that is important for aboriginal subsistence fisheries in Arctic Canada. Life-history patterns were originally inferred from micro-PIXE line scans of Sr distribution.
