Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Crack mechanisms in concrete – from micro to macro scale

open access: yesBudownictwo i Architektura, 2020
The paper discusses a fictitious crack model of concrete in tension proposed by Hillerborg. This model presents a concept that illustrates the mechanism of crack initiation and its propagation in concrete on meso-level.

Research on the micro-crack density of a chromium coating/steel substrate with and without laser pre-quenching treatment

open access: yes, 2011
The initial micro-crack density of a chromium coating/steel substrate with and without laser pre-quenching treatment was investigated in this work. It was found the micro-crack density of Cr coating on the pre-quenched substrate surface was much lower ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Structural differences arise between fruit cuticles of two apple cultivars during long term cold storage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Horticultural Science, 2018
Apple fruits are covered by hydrophobic cuticle that provides protection against desiccation, pathogens, excessive water absorption and radiation. The features of cuticle affect the quality and storability of the fruits.
