Simulation on the Micro-Deval test for the aggregate wear properties measurement

Construction and Building Materials, 2018
Abstract In this study, a simulation on the Micro-Deval test was presented for the aggregate wear properties measurement. The performance parameters including wear resistance, density, elasticity and Poisson ratio of the five kind aggregates were obtained by tests on red sandstone, basalt, limestone, quartzite and gneiss.

Canadian experience with the micro-Deval test for aggregates

Geological Society, London, Engineering Geology Special Publications, 1998
Abstract Several aggregate test methods used in evaluating the mechanical strength and predicting the performance of aggregate have been in use since the 1930s. Today there is a need for precise tests that have a demonstrated correlation with field performance.

Modeling of Micro Deval abrasion loss based on some rock properties

Journal of African Earth Sciences, 2017
Abstract Aggregate is one of the most widely used construction material. The quality of the aggregate is determined using some testing methods. Among these methods, the Micro Deval Abrasion Loss (MDAL) test is commonly used for the determination of the quality and the abrasion resistance of aggregate.

Use of the Micro-Deval Test for Assessing Fine Aggregate Durability

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2008
The Micro-Deval test was evaluated for its suitability in assessing the durability of fine aggregate from Virginia sources. Fine aggregates from 10 sources with known performance histories were tested with the Micro-Deval and several common aggregate quality methods. The Canadian Micro-Deval testing protocol for fine aggregates was followed.

Comparative Analysis of Idaho and Micro-Deval Aggregate Degradation Test Methods

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2014
AbstractIn the United States, several states have adopted the Micro-Deval test (MDT) method for evaluating degradation characteristics of aggregates used in road construction. This paper compares MDT aggregate degradation data to those obtained by the Idaho degradation test (IDT) method. Simple linear regression analyses were performed on the aggregate

Modified Micro-Deval Procedure for Evaluating the Polishing Tendency of Coarse Aggregates

open access: yesTransportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2011
Coarse aggregates in asphalt concrete should be tough and durable to withstand hot-mix asphalt production, transportation, construction, traffic loads, and environmental effects. The morphology of such aggregates plays an important role in aggregates' mechanical properties and influences asphalt pavement skid resistance, an essential characteristic of ...

Results of Micro-Deval Test for Coarse Aggregates from Virginia Sources

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2008
Aggregate is the most widely used construction material, and a key aspect of aggregate quality is durability. In this study, the Micro-Deval test was studied to evaluate its suitability for assessing the durability of coarse aggregates from Virginia sources.

Ballast Wear: Insight from the Discrete Element Simulation of Tracks and Micro-Deval Tests

open access: yesCivil-Comp Proceedings, 2016
cited By 0 ; International audience ; Throughout the life of a track, ballast grains wear as a result of both the trains passing over the track and the maintenance operations (tamping). The morphology of the grains is changed: they lose angularity and fine particles are produced, causing a gradual loss of track performance.

Mechanical Degradation of Aggregate by the Los Angeles-, the Micro-Deval- and the Nordic Test Methods

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2011
The quality of aggregate used as buildings materials is defined by European Standard test methods. According to the agreement within the European Economic Area, each individual country decides test methods of current interest. Among the Nordic countries, the Los Angeles-, micro-Deval- and the Nordic test are the most common methods used to decide the ...

Evaluation of aggregate resistance to wear with Micro-Deval test in combination with aggregate imaging techniques

Wear, 2015
Abstract The Micro-Deval test (MD) is a standard procedure used to measure the resistance of aggregate materials to polishing abrasion; the results are related to the skid resistance of road surfaces. The purpose of the current work was to establish a correlation between the Micro-Deval test results on 11 different aggregates and their morphological ...
