Micro-grids and energy storage systems

2014 AEIT Annual Conference - From Research to Industry: The Need for a More Effective Technology Transfer (AEIT), 2014
The integration of Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) in Micro Grids (MGs) is becoming mandatory for the optimal management of the energy flows and to make the MG an efficient and self-sustainable system, further able to provide ancillary services to the main network.

Micro Cantilever Electrostatic Energy Harvester

Volume 1: 15th International Conference on Advanced Vehicle Technologies; 10th International Conference on Design Education; 7th International Conference on Micro- and Nanosystems, 2013
In this paper, we present a SDOF model of an energy harvester made up of microcantilever beams with tip mass. We investigate performance utilizing electrostatic actuation mechanism resulted from an electret layer patterned underneath the tip mass. The excitation force is transferred to cantilever beams through the vibration of the fixed end, i.e.

Citizen Energy: Towards Populist Interactive Micro-Energy Production

2011 44th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2011
Citizen Energy is a novel, participatory citizen engagement with energy that is designed to extend our relationship with energy beyond existing producer-consumer models towards ones that are more participatory, intimate, personal, social, and emotional.

Micro-Energy Harvesting From Automotive Dynamics

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 2023
Abstract Most modern vehicles feature some level of automation that contributes to the overall feeling of comfort and safety. Traditional designs are, however, more difficult to apply. In fact, it is a growing consumer of wires for power and communication use, which increases the weight and cost.

Broadband Rotational Energy Harvesting Using Micro Energy Harvester

Volume 2: Mechanics and Behavior of Active Materials; Structural Health Monitoring; Bioinspired Smart Materials and Systems; Energy Harvesting; Emerging Technologies, 2018
This paper proposes a broadband rotational energy harvesting setup by using micro piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH). When driven in different rotating speed, the PEH can output relatively high power which exhibits the phenomenon of frequency up-conversion transforming the low frequency of rotation into the high frequency of resonant vibration.

Modelling Household Energy Expenditures Using Micro-Data

The Economic Journal, 1989
This paper is concerned with the empirical modeling of domestic demand for energy in the United Kingdom at the level of the individual household. A two-stage budgeting model of household demand for energy conditional on durable ownership is developed. At the first stage, income is allocated between energy and nonenergy consumption, while at the second ...

Bridging Electronics and Micro Energy Storage

2022
The development of small, smart and remote objects requires microscale components and energy autonomy. Activated carbon electrodes with high specific surface areas, achieving high electrical double layer capacitances present an opportunity to associate electronic components and energy storage. Transistors are a key element in any integrated circuit and

Micro-electro-mechanical systems-based micro-electromagnetic vibration energy harvester

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part N: Journal of Nanoengineering and Nanosystems, 2013
We developed a simple and efficient micro-electromagnetic energy harvester based on micro-electro-mechanical systems technology. For processes of electromagnetic vibration energy harvesters in the presence of the magnet, the compatibility with the micro-electro-mechanical systems processing is not good.
