Micro-structured electrode arrays
Vacuum, 2004Micro-structured electrode (MSE) arrays allow to generate large-area uniform glow discharges over a wide pressure range up to atmospheric pressure. The electrode dimensions in the µm-range realized by means of modern micro-machining and galvanic techniques are small enough to generate sufficiently high electric field strengths to ignite gas discharges ...

Micro-Baseline Structured Light
2019 IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), 2019We propose Micro-baseline Structured Light (MSL), a novel 3D imaging approach designed for small form-factor devices such as cell-phones and miniature robots. MSL operates with small projector-camera baseline and low-cost projection hardware, and can recover scene depths with computationally lightweight algorithms.

Studying Membrane Protein Structures by MicroED
2021Microcrystal electron diffraction (MicroED) enables atomic resolution structures to be determined from vanishingly small crystals. Soluble proteins typically grow crystals that are tens to hundreds of microns in size for X-ray crystallography. But membrane protein crystals often grow crystals that are too small for X-ray diffraction and yet too large ...

Review – 3D Micro CT Imaging of Renal Micro-Structural Changes
Nephron Clinical Practice, 2006Appropriate nephron function is dependent on the detailed spatial interrelationship of blood vesselswith the tubular components. However, because of methodological limitations, the three-dimensional anatomical complexity of the renal vasculatureand its geometrical relationship with specific tubular segmentsalong the nephron has been difficult to study ...

Curved hierarchically micro–micro structured polypropylene surfaces by injection molding
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2016Structural hierarchy of polymer surfaces has been of central interest due to its diverse surface functionalities. However, the research on hierarchically structured polymer surfaces has been focused on planar surfaces even though applications may also be variously curved.

Laser-based micro-manufacturing of complex micro structures
ICALEO 2002: 21st International Congress on Laser Materials Processing and Laser Microfabrication, 2002The microscale layered manufacturing technologies have significant implications for the design and fabrication of complex 3D micro structures. This work presents initial studies on fabricating complex micro structures by a novel micro-manufacturing system.

Superhydrophobic Micro/Nano Dual-Scale Structures
Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2013In this paper, we present superhydrophobic micro/nano dual structures (MNDS). By KOH-etching of silicon, well-designed microstructures, including inverted pyramids and V-shape grooves, are first fabricated with certain geometry sizes. Nanostructures made of high-compact high-aspect-ratio nanopillars are then formed atop microstructures by an improved ...

Micro-ECM of 3D micro-electrode for efficiently processing 3D micro-structure
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016Applying 3D micro-electrodes in micro-electrical discharge machining (micro-EDM) can process a 3D micro-structure with up and down reciprocating machining method. However, this method has some shortcomings, such as the formation of ridges on 3D micro-structure surface and a relatively low processing efficiency. To resolve these shortcomings, this study

Micro-Structural and Micro-Mechanical Characterization of Rock-Boring Angelwing Clams
Acta BiomaterialiaRock-boring behavior is a common phenomenon among certain bivalve clams, yet the mechanisms enabling this capability remain elusive. This study delves into the microstructural and micromechanical properties of the shells and denticles of angelwing (Cyrtopleura costata), a rock-boring clam.

Interpretation of Micro-Structures in Carbonaceous Meteorites
Nature, 1962IN their recent article1, Claus and Suba-C reiterate a number of older arguments in favour of a biogenic origin of the non-birefringent, globular objects in the Orgueil meteorite. I am of the opinion that these are microchondri of glass and I have previously expounded my arguments in favour of this2.
