The micro-structure of attention

Neural Networks, 2006
We investigate three possible methods of specifying the microstructure of attention feedback: contrast gain, additive and output gain, using simple single node and 3-layer cortical models composed of graded or spiking neurons. Contrast gain and additive attention are also tested in a spiking network which is simplified by mean field methods.

Fabrication of Micro-Structures by Micro-ECM

Advanced Materials Research, 2009
The machining of materials on microscopic scales is considered to be great importance to a wide variety of fields. Electrochemical Micro-machining (EMM) appears to be promising to machine the micro-structures in future due to the material is dissolved at the unit of ion.

Micro-Baseline Structured Light

2019 IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), 2019
We propose Micro-baseline Structured Light (MSL), a novel 3D imaging approach designed for small form-factor devices such as cell-phones and miniature robots. MSL operates with small projector-camera baseline and low-cost projection hardware, and can recover scene depths with computationally lightweight algorithms.

Micro-structured magnetic atmospheres

Solar Physics, 1996
Asymmetrical Stokes profiles are produced if the photospheric magnetic and velocity fields are structured on scales smaller than the mean-free-path of the photons. Here we put forward a compact analytical expression for the radiative transfer equation in this case.

Micro- and macro-failure models of heterogeneous media with micro-structure

Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2003
Abstract In this paper, the effectiveness of homogenization techniques for media with micro-structure subject to large deformations has been studied by comparing their micro- and macro-failure mechanisms. The material has been studied by considering its representative volume element (RVE) which entails all the geometric and constitutive information ...

Micro-foamed structural materials for micro-aircraft

The Aeronautical Journal, 2002
AbstractThe development of micro-air vehicles poses a considerable challenge to the materials scientist. Vehicles that may occupy less than 10cm in any direction require many structural components with dimensions well below 1mm when conventional engineering and assembly techniques are employed.

Design patterns: a survey on their micro‐structures

Journal of Software: Evolution and Process, 2011
SUMMARYDesign patterns play a significant role in reverse engineering by providing information not only on how but also on why a solution has been implemented in a specific way because of their semantics. The application of design patterns leads to their personalization to a specific context, hence to the generation of variants.

Structure determination of a DNA crystal by MicroED

Structure, 2023
SUMMARY Microcrystal electron diffraction (MicroED) is a powerful tool for determining high-resolution structures of microcrystals from a diverse array of biomolecular, chemical, and material samples. In this study, we apply MicroED to DNA crystals, which have not been previously analyzed using this technique.

On the structure of micro emulsions

Journal of Molecular Structure, 1982
Abstract The Rayleigh ratio for a micro emulsion has been calculated using the square well and triangular well attractive tails as perturbations over the Percus-Yevick hard-sphere model within the mean spherical model (MSM) approximation. The results are in better agreement with experiment than are those from the semi-empirical Van der Waals type ...

The micro-structure and biomechanics of eyelid tarsus

Journal of Biomechanics, 2022
Eyelid tarsus is a fibrocartilagenous extracellular matrix around meibomian glands providing structural support to eyelids and play important roles in the integrity of the ocular surface. There are no previous studies investigating the relationship between micro-structure and function of eyelid tarsus.
