Reducing the use of Fossil Carbon and Fuels to Defossilize the Electric Steelmaking Route: Evaluation of the Effects of Alternative C‐Bearing Materials and Hydrogen in the Electric Arc Furnace

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The experiments and simulations demonstrate that, in general, alternative carbon sources can decrease fossil CO2 without adversely impacting EAF process and product. High plastics and tires ratios cause unsafe conditions and poor slag foaming. Hydrogen in EAF burners decreases CO2 but increases water vapor, which can raise the hydrogen content in ...

Quasi in-situ analysis of geometrically necessary dislocation density in α-fibre and γ-fibre during static recrystallization in cold-rolled low-carbon Ti-V bearing microalloyed steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In the present study, cold-rolled low-carbon steel is annealed at three different conditions: 700 oC for 0 s, 800 oC for 0 s and 800 oC for 2 min at the heating rate of ~10 oC/s.

Influence of Oxygen Contamination on the Genesis of Nonmetallic Inclusions in a Microalloyed Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Oxygen contamination during melting of steels strongly affects the evolution of nonmetallic inclusions. Controlled remelting experiments, combined with SEM/EDS analysis and thermodynamic simulations, reveal how reoxidation promotes the transformation of alumina‐based inclusions into complex FeO–MnO oxides and other interactions.

Development of Microalloyed Intragranular Ferrite Steel With High Strength and Toughness

open access: yesTeshugang, 2005
The general chemical compositions of microalloyed intragranular ferrite steels are 0.2~0.4C,0.2~0.8Si, 1.0~1.7Mn,0.05~0. 15V. It is a main measure to increase the strength and toughness of ferite-pearlite microalloyed steel using recrystallized forging ...

Influence of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations, Structure, and Properties of Scrap‐Based Steels: A Focused Review of Recent Developments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review explains how impurities from recycled scrap affect steel production and performance. Even small amounts (far below 1%) of these impurities can change how steel behaves during fabrication but also affect the properties of the end product. With better understanding and targeted countermeasures, these challenges can be managed, enabling wider ...

Tailoring Microstructure and Hardness in Maraging 300 Steel via 2.4 wt.% Niobium Addition and Controlled Aging Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
High Nb (2.4 wt.%) addition to Maraging 300 steel drives lattice distortion and nanoscale Nb–Mo‐rich precipitation, confirmed by energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy mapping (Mo ~5.4 wt.%, Nb ~2.5 wt.%). Nanoindentation reveals strong matrix hardening (H >4.8 GPa) at 480°C aging, while 560°C induces ~1.92 vol.% reverted austenite, enabling tunable ...
