Whole-Genome Resequencing and Evolutionary Analysis of Wild Morel Mushroom Morchella sp.

open access: yesHorticulturae
Morels (Morchella sp.) are important edible fungi cultivated mainly in China. Although the relevant culture technology for Morchella is now fundamentally mature, it is limited to the Elata and Rufobrunnea clades, and the artificial culture technology for

Downstream signaling induced by several plant Toll/interleukin-1 receptor-containing immune proteins is stable at elevated temperature

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Plant immunity and, in particular, immune responses induced by nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat receptors (NLRs) are often dampened above the optimal plant’s growth range, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive.

High frequency body site translocation of nosocomial Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesNature Communications
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important nosocomial pathogen which can cause serious infections across diverse anatomic locations. Infections can spread within an individual to different body sites, but the rate and directionality of this process is ...

Physical Principles Governing Colloidal Particle Deposition at Low Reynold’s Number: Applications to Microbial Biofilms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Biofilms formed from the adhesion of microbes to a surface hold great relevance to public health and wastewater management. However, the physical principles underlying the attachment stage of biofilm formation, when individual microbes first come into ...

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

Detection of microbes in the subsurface [PDF]

open access: yes
The search for evidence of microbial life in the deep subsurface of Earth has implications for the Mars Rover Sampling Return Missions program. If suitably protected environments can be found on Mars then the instrumentation to detect biomarkers could be

Generating Cell Surface Nucleated Hydrogels with an Artificial Membrane‐Binding Transglutaminase

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cell‐based therapies require advanced strategies to enhance cell delivery and bioactivity. Cell membrane engineering offers an avenue to impart new functions to delivered cells to boost their viability and function. Here, an artificial membrane‐binding transglutaminase is generated and biophysically characterized.

Bacterial diversity among the fruit bodies of ectomycorrhizal and saprophytic fungi and their corresponding hyphosphere soils

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Macro-fungi play important roles in the soil elemental cycle in terrestrial ecosystems. Many researchers have focused on the interactions between mycorrhizal fungi and host plants, whilst comparatively few studies aim to characterise the relationships ...
