Thresholding Algorithms for Microbial Cell Counting

2019 21st International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2019
Automated cell counting on fluorescent stained bacteria images is a rapid and accurate method for microbial quantification, that identifies and counts individual cells, also sorting them within different subpopulations. The key process is the image binarization, where cells (white pixels) are identified within a homogenous background (black pixels). We

Rapid Count of Microbial Cells in Dialysate

Therapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, 2007
Abstract:  An apparatus for the non‐culture method (NCM) of microbial cell count was formerly developed and named a bioplorer. The bioplorer NCM is based on the double staining of cells with 4′, 6‐diamidino‐2‐phenylindole (DAPI) and propidium iodide (PI) and the automatic analysis of their fluorescent microscopic images.

Subgingival temperature Relation to microbial counts

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1992
Abstract The present investigation examined the relationship of selected bacterial species and Subgingival temperature. 35 subjects were measured at 6 sites per tooth for clinical parameters and Subgingival temperature. Measurements were repeated for 21 subjects at 2 month intervals providing a total of 66 subjects visits.

Statistical analyses of microbial counts of dental plaque

Journal of Periodontal Research, 1983
Samples of bacterial plaque were removed from the mesial surfaces of the upper canine, and upper and lower first molars from 20 young adult subjects with gingivitis but without attachment loss. Absolute counts and proportions of 23 categories of microorganisms were enumerated by darkfield microscopy and on selective and elective media.

Conventional Microbial Counting and Identification Techniques

2021
The present chapter deals with conventional methods of detection and identification of microorganisms with a prime focus on food microbiology. It provides a brief overview of the different detection methods of microorganisms, such as standard plate count method, most probable number count and direct microscopic count.

Analytical and Physiological Variability of Salivary Microbial Counts

Journal of Dental Research, 1988
Quantitation of mutans streptococci (MS) and Lactobacillus has been proposed as a method for the identification of patients at high risk for dental caries. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the analytical and physiological variability of this procedure. Variability due to specimen collection and processing was investigated by repeated

The Discrete Weibull Distribution: An Alternative for Correlated Counts with Confirmation for Microbial Counts in Water

Risk Analysis, 2010
Distributions of pathogen counts in treated water over time are highly skewed, power‐law‐like, and discrete. Over long periods of record, a long tail is observed, which can strongly determine the long‐term mean pathogen count and associated health effects.

“Dramatic Growth” of Microbial Aerosols for Visualization and Accurate Counting of Bioaerosols

Analytical Chemistry, 2023
While the global COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, microbial aerosol detection has become of high concern. Timely, accurate, and highly sensitive monitoring of microbial aerosols in indoor air is the basis for effective prevention and control of infectious diseases. At present, no commercial equipment or reliable technology can simultaneously control the

Efficacy of ozonation on microbial counts in used brines for cheesemaking

International Dairy Journal, 2015
Abstract Due to their prolonged use, cheese brines are progressively enriched with organic substances, which allows microorganisms arising from the curds to achieve high concentrations. In this study, the feasibility of using gaseous ozone to reduce the microbial contamination of used brines was evaluated.
